Title: SC2 ringtone
Post by: Galactic on July 23, 2007, 04:05:13 pm
Does anyone know of a Star Control 2 ringtone? :P

EDIT: I found two here (http://r-kioski.mobileavenue.net/ringtones/?type=1&campaign=&view=&category=16&find=&page=3), but they are monophonic. :'(

*continues on the search*

I use the original Ur-Quan track as my ringtone, but my phone can play MP3's. I assume you're after polytones or whatever they are called?

Yeah. But wait, my Nokia 6151 can use MP3 ringers too! Where could I get one...

Oh, that's easy. Grab whatever tune you want from the UQM content packages, choose the parts you want in your favourite tracker, export to MP3 (via WAV if necessary). Converting MOD to MIDI (well) is trickier...

If you're still looking for MIDIs, I found a few on my phone; some MIDIs I grabbed from PoNaF (I think) long ago and did some quick note priority adjustment on for 4-channel phones like my old Nokia 6100: Arilou (http://koti.mbnet.fi/lonnberg/Arilou.mid), Melnorme (http://koti.mbnet.fi/lonnberg/Melnorme.mid), Ur-Quan Kzer-Za (http://koti.mbnet.fi/lonnberg/Ur-Quan.mid).

I also found a copy of Mark Vera's (IIRC) HyperSpace ring tone (http://koti.mbnet.fi/lonnberg/hspace-tone.mid).

For a more advanced version, I used this mod (http://www.medievalfuture.com/precursors/music/modules/UR-QUAN.MOD) and converted it to run in my phone. Unfortunately the original mod seems to be a tad damaged (some strange sounds around the 15 sec mark), but my phone rarely rings for more than 5 seconds anyhow.

Now I have those, but I have no idea how to get it in my phone. I don't have a cable... :-[

Ok now I have that in my cellphone. Guess it was worth it.

Infrared or Bluetooth connections are apparently available on that model (of course, that doesn't help much if your PC has neither). Punching the URLs directly into the phone's WAP browser works but is tedious and may incur additional charges. If you have a suitable memory card reader, you could try taking out the memory card from the phone and transferring directly to it instead of using the phone (great for big files like MP3s).

Also, if it's important enough you can buy a Bluetooth USB adapter, at least in Finland they are pretty cheap.

Nah, actually this is not. Was just wondering if there were any that could be easily downed with a WAP code.

Infrared was the way to go with my Sony Ericsson. I got the remixed UQM theme and the Sushi Delivery cart (one of the Slylandro remixes that didn't make it) on there, but not active.

Doesn't help much if his computer doesn't have infrared capabilities. You can buy infrared USB adapters as well (I think), but in that case it'd be smarter to just go with Bluetooth IMO. But like he said, it's not important enough for that. I suppose if one of his friends has one the capability, he could do it at a friends house or something...

I got my infrared adapter for a desktop from an auction site. I spent about 4 bucks and a night of cursing and shouting trying to install it, but once it did, it worked like a charm.
