Title: Druuge vs Defenseless Ships
Post by: Asrial on August 14, 2007, 12:13:05 pm
One of the comments the Druuge made were about how 'defenseless' ships are prime targets.

I was thinking...

Has anyone tried going up to them with no escorts and no weaponry?

Well, I haven't personally tried it, but I think they will attack.

EDIT:

"I note that your ship is unarmed and unescorted.
Therefore, by Druuge law, your ship is deemed derelict, and is subject to the laws of salvage.
While I would prefer to take your ship intact, alas, I suspect you will force me to sell it as scrap."

Yeah, they make that comment if they notice your ship's unarmed and unescorted (or just whenever possibly, seeing as how most of the races act as if your escort fleet doesn't exist. The Yehat are the only ones that actively acknowledge that you're the flagship of a large fleet.), and then immediately attack you. Not a very good idea on the player's part.

Try visiting them a second time unarmed and unescorted for an even funnier line. Funnier in-game, but if you really want to spoil it, here's the text (copy and paste somewhere else):
"Under the authority of Druuge Statute 3429, subsection A86
`Definition of Starship Derelicts'
I hereby declare your undefended vessel as my salvaged property.
You have five seconds to vacate the premises before I am forced to remove you by force
Time's up!"

Wow, they're wrose than jawas.
I've never tried this. I've always had a bitter place in my heart for the Druuge, so the only time I see them is usually to do the fuel trick.

I always found the Druuge kind of depressing, personally, possibly because I see some very real dangers of some of our societies becoming like that, but they're still fun to rip off and blow up.

You can shake off the ones chasing you by going back to the homeworld, even if you don't buy ships there.  Watsonian explanation: they can't tell from a distance whether you're unescorted and unarmed, so when you go to the homeworld they assume you're buying ships (or could be buying ships) and that you're not unescorted and unarmed any more.

I've never been stupid enough to travel to Druuge space without escorts anyways...I always have at least Fwiffo with me ^-^.

So it looks like the second line didin't come up? Druuge just consider you a criminal. Funny how they talk like you'd committed something violent.

Heh. The second time I completed the game, I got hold of a single Druuge Mauler from them (I forget what I traded, but it wasn't slaves), and once everything was ready, I waited for the Kohr-Ah to start their killing spree and wipe out Druuge society. Then I attacked and destroyed the Sa-Matra, ending the game.

That way, I was indirectly responsible for destroying the oppressive and corrupt Druuge society, but preserving the race (in the form of the Druuge captain and possibly crew of my single Mauler).

....yes, I get a megalomaniacal streak in most games where I get to rule anything. >:-)

evktalo: That second line that doesn't appear is druug066.ogg. It exists in the game and it's referred by the source code, but due to a bug-like "feature" it's never used - it is supposed to appear when you visit the Druuge the second time unarmed and unescorted, but already when you do it the first time you cause them to because hostile, and the hostile state takes precedence, so the "hostile" sequence of lines will be used instead of the second salvage line.
