Title: I surrender, finally...
Post by: Lor-Quan on September 20, 2007, 10:42:30 pm
Does someone knows where is the creature searched by the VUX captain??

I am so tired of visiting constellations  :-\... serpentis?? No. Scorpi?? No. Camhaleontis? No!!

Maybe then Hydra, or Camelopardis... no, all wrong places :(

Don't tell me the solution please, but just give me a suggestion... maybe I simply haven't seen the energy point on the right world...

Here's a small hint: maybe you shouldn't look for energy points :-)

As the previous post suggests, the creature is a biological. I spent oh so many days
looking for the thing. I'm so glad it was an option side-quest.

In fear of giving away to much, the answers to your questions would be yes, and no.

It may speed up your quest to know that the world you seek is near a QuasiSpace portal; which reduces the pool of candidates to around 15 systems.

There are a few races that can give you some hints too...

You'll know it when you encounter it from the lander, as it matches its description in that it's 1)unique and 2)very dangerous (compared to other biologicals, anyway.  Hope you've gotten lander upgrades!).

Having the original printed starmap and being familiar with Antoine de Saint Exupéry's The Little Prince might also help. ;)

(Always wondered if FF and PR3 actually got the riddle's inspiration from this book)

Vulpeculae???  :o

I can't believe it... a little discrimination for the players that haven't read the fable  >:( >:( >:(

P.S.: I haven't encountered any race with hints about this... but I have visited almost all... boh

Hmmm... no, the story says it's a boa... but the creature isn't around the only yellow star in Serpentis (Gamma)...

Ok... so the latin traslation is...?  :)

Try using the untranslated word, "Linch-Nas-Ploh", as a hint.

Well, you only get these hints if certain conditions are met.

Heh, I remember thinking the same. That's why I always send the scanned starmap to new UQM players, and mention they'll need it.

On the other hand, where there's no challenge, there's no game.
And where there's no ideal, there's no progress, only stagnation and decay.
The VUX Beast is the ideal. To find it is to transcend the samsara, the cycle of birth and rebirth, and to attain Buddhahood.

EDIT: In simpler, less turgid words, having such a hard-to-attain goal increases the lifetime of the game.

Then I'm going to trasmit all my love to the programmers that have such an idea of "increasing gametime"  ;D...

Ok, now It's time to go to Procyon and to end this game  ;)...

You now, this was all pointless because ZEX TELLS you where it is. He SAYS it is in the Lyncis constellation and then he babbles on about the big creature eating the small creature. [or something like that. I didn't catch all of what he said] Maybe you just didn't ask him the right way.

No, no, he says "Linch-Nas-Ploh". Of course, it's rather easy to derive "Lyncis" from here if you have the right mindset (just like I did).

What constellation looks most like a long thin creature that has swallowed an elephantine beast (whole)?  Look at the starmap for the one that most resembles that and go there.  Remember also that Zex tells you that the sun is yellow, so rule out any stars in that constellation that aren't yellow.
