Title: The Best Hyperspace Music Post by: Tiberian on October 26, 2007, 10:51:46 pm This has been discussed before but I forgot. There are lots of Hyperspace remixes out there and probably I haven't even heard them all. I feel the one in the Precursor's remix pack has not preserved the original atmosphere of hyperspace. Out of the ones I have heard so far, I think Jouni Airaksinen's Re-enter mix is by far the greatest. In case someone hasn't heard that one, I point you to this link:
http://koti.mbnet.fi/tibe9mm/hyperspace-re-enter.ogg (http://koti.mbnet.fi/tibe9mm/hyperspace-re-enter.ogg) Actually, this is not just the greatest Hyperspace remix, but the best piece of music ever made. I remember there was discussion about whether the hyperspace music could vary depending on the situation in the game. The core-team could maybe give insights on this. HyperSpace Electro Blast FTW IMHO (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00938/).Title: Re: The Best Hyperspace Music Post by: meep-eep on October 27, 2007, 12:00:58 am I remember there was discussion about whether the hyperspace music could vary depending on the situation in the game. The core-team could maybe give insights on this. Alternate tracks are supported for the StarBase (low power and normal operation), Spathi (Fwiffo, Safe ones, other), and Yehat (rebels vs Royalist/original).Support for alternate tracks in other places can be added very easilly if there is a need. What different situations in the game were you thinking of for using an alternate HyperSpace track? Being out of fuel? Being in enemy territory? Title: Re: The Best Hyperspace Music Post by: Elerium on October 27, 2007, 12:11:43 am What, nobody plays 'What is love?' when in Hyperspace? :P
But yeah seriously I agree with Tiberian, that's the best hyperspace remix I've still got. Title: Re: The Best Hyperspace Music Post by: Mark Vera on October 27, 2007, 11:29:42 am I must point out that the Re-enter mix is basically just the original mod song. What I did I rendered the separate instruments as separate tracks and then mixed those tracks again by adding some effects and balancing the sounds. Only thing really not part of the original and just addition to this mix are the space-wind fx at the beginning. So in a sense, you're just hearing what the original Riku's module version could have been, if the trackers had better mixing and effecting capabilities.
Title: Re: The Best Hyperspace Music Post by: Tiberian on October 27, 2007, 03:49:53 pm I knew that, but I don't think it changes anything.
To Meep-eep: I was thinking about at least when the ship is equipped with the Chmmr crystals and some other unspecified important game-events. Being out of fuel would also be good. Title: Re: The Best Hyperspace Music Post by: meep-eep on October 27, 2007, 06:57:36 pm The ship being equipped with the Precursor bomb sounds like a good occasion for another track. If there is any interest in making a track for that, adding the code to support it should not be a problem.
Out of fuel is less interesting imho, as there wouldn't be a nice transition, and most people will rarely hear it anyhow. Title: Re: The Best Hyperspace Music Post by: Neonlare on October 28, 2007, 12:20:30 am Could do something akin to Skies of Arcadia, and have the Hyperspace theme slightly alter itself in each of the Areas of alien hyperspace.
Return posts are fun. Title: Re: The Best Hyperspace Music Post by: Censored on October 28, 2007, 01:27:24 am I must point out that the Re-enter mix is basically just the original mod song. What, nobody plays 'What is love?' when in Hyperspace? :P And had to do this. Title: Re: The Best Hyperspace Music Post by: Dancing Fungus on November 05, 2007, 04:32:31 pm Does anyone know where to get that Quasi-space music that's not in the remix packs but is in the game?
I like that music, but I can't find it anywhere. Title: Re: The Best Hyperspace Music Post by: Novus on November 05, 2007, 10:53:03 pm I like that music, but I can't find it anywhere. Uh, extract it from the game content? The 3DO music content package is a renamed ZIP full of Ogg Vorbis files.Title: Re: The Best Hyperspace Music Post by: Dancing Fungus on November 06, 2007, 04:48:27 pm Oh. I feel like an idiot now. Thanks.
Title: Re: The Best Hyperspace Music Post by: countchocula86 on November 07, 2007, 03:16:28 am Hyperspace before going to Starbase
Out of Fuel General Hyperspace Enemy Hyperspace Ally Hyperspace Having the Chmmr Bomb All seem like decent points for new tracks. Hyperspace before going to Starbase? It should sound really creepy as if you're venturing into a lion's den. That and the probes should be enough incentive to find the starbase first. The only thing is that a lot of people will probably not hear it. Enemy and ally hyperspace? I take it this is after discovering an ally/enemy ? If you do it before, you'd have a queue on when you fly into a region of inhabited space. Title: Re: The Best Hyperspace Music Post by: Tiberian on November 07, 2007, 10:29:08 am Are you talking about a fade out - fade in when moving from allied/neutral hyperspace to hostile hyperspace? Or maybe the coordinates from which the ship enters hyperspace determines the allied/neutral/hostile track?
If there would be a "before going to starbase" track, it should be relatively short since the probes are interrupting it all the time. In regards to this remark and my own previous one; for some strange reason, the title tracks of The outer limits, The X-files and Dr. Who pop in my mind... And I don't even watch those shows. ::) Title: Re: The Best Hyperspace Music Post by: jmorgan on November 20, 2007, 11:33:39 am I did this one a while ago. Was just playing with upscaling the samples on the original.
Thought it came out quite well.. How about when you enter the star system where the hundreds of Ur-Quan and Kohr-Ah are orbiting? Extremely foreboding, ominous music should start.
