Title: Cooking With Nukes! - Super Melee Tournament
Post by: Shiver on October 28, 2007, 11:26:59 am
Alright ladies and gents, we haven't had a decent tournament in a long time so I'm hosting one. Chime in if you plan to attend. I don't mind if you show up unannounced, but it would be nice to get a feel for how many people intend to play.

-----[Date]

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

-----[Time]

  • 4 AM Sydney
  • 6 AM Otaki
  • 11 AM Los Angeles
  • 12 PM Denver
  • 1 PM Chicago
  • 2 PM New York
  • 6 PM London
  • 7 PM Paris
  • 8 PM Helsinki

-----[Place]

#UQM-Arena on irc://chat.freenode.net

-----[Tournament Structure]

There will be two separate leagues playing at once, a newbie league and a veteran league. You can request which one you'd like to play in, but the odds are I've already played with you before and I'll assign you to the league that suits you best.

Both leagues will go by Swiss tournament rules. If you lose a round, you are not ejected from the tournament but instead play against the other beaten players. There will be three rounds, then possibly a final bout between the two top participants if a clear winner has not emerged.

-----[Tournament Rules]

1) Maximum fleet size of 200 points.
2) Only one of each ship type is allowed in your fleet.
3) You must have your team set up before connecting to another player for melee. Do not adjust your fleet once you've connected to an opponent.
4) Thraddash is banned from the veteran league, and here's why (http://uqm.stack.nl/forum/index.php?topic=3882.0). Thraddash is NOT banned from the newbie league.
5) Foul play will result in you being ejected from the tournament. This hasn't ever happened before, and hopefully it never will.

Urmmm ... hello.

I'd like to join up in the newbie league. But I cannot host, either.

Now I'm going to show what a total newbie I am ... how do I connect ?  I couldn't find any"how to do network stuff" in the folder when I downloaded the release.

Respectfully,

Brian P.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to back out.  My counterpart to Commander Talana says she has other things to do that day and time

*Screen fades to black*

Like this ..
... and this ...

.... oooh! And especially this!

Sorry folks, you'll have to just get along without me this time :)

Respectfully,

Brian P.

Whoops! Bit of a problem, guys. Because of different daylight savings time days between continents, the timezones listed in Europe were actually all wrong. So the tournament officially starts in 3 minutes from the time I post this, but if some people show up late I'll try and fit you in anyhow.

I've corrected the times list for Europe in the original post, although that's probably not going to help at this point.

Oddly enough, my Results screen showed me as having 6 points left - the value of my destroyed Stinger - despite having no ships left . I wonder if this is some sort of bug?

Bug 437 (http://bugs.uqm.stack.nl/show_bug.cgi?id=437) perhaps? It wouldn't surprise me if (assuming you're both playing as bottom player) this bug means that one player sees one result and the other another. Definitely ungood.

Yes, this is exactly what happened from my point of view.

Tiberian, out of curiosity, do you remember what you saw after the battle?
