Title: Using content in another game
Post by: ptx on December 01, 2007, 03:28:57 am
Would it be legal to use UQM music/images in another (free) game? If yes, would the game have to be open source?

Thanks,
-pc

The following is the opinion of a programmer, not a lawyer. I also have no knowledge of your particular jurisdiction.

Quote from: UQM documentation
The content -- voiceovers, dialogue, graphics, and music -- are
copyright (C) 1992, 1993, 2002 Toys for Bob, Inc. or their
respective creators.  The content may be used freely under the
terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike
2.5 license (included below, and also available at
    http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.5/).  The content
may also be copied freely as part of a distribution of The Ur-Quan
    Masters.
Basically, you can use the UQM content in another game as long as you:
  • Attribute Toys for Bob and the creators of the UQM content correctly (i.e. indicate who did the stuff you use).
  • Do not attempt to make money from the game.
  • Your game is under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5 license.
