Post by: Geoffrey Straw on January 11, 2003, 09:10:34 pm
ok I have played the dos version quite recently and the rubies are worth 25 in that game but the manual says they are worth 20...  that should be fixed rubies are worth 25...  thanks

And now I fully understand why all the technical writers I've ever worked with have "that look"..  :P

I don't mean to be an ogre, but there's 14,000+ files in the current distribution, so a little more direction on exactly what's wrong and how to fix it would be nice.

What file (or files) contain this error?  What does it currently say, EXACTLY, and what should it say?

Or even better, you could just fix the file(s) and send the patches (or the whole file if making patches isn't your bag) to the appropriate member of the dev team (instructions here (http://sc2.sourceforge.net/contributing.html))

It looks like Nic was responding to a different post... calm down, there has been a communications error.
;)

As far as I remember, though, I thought that precious materials like rubies were supposed to be 25. Exotics like antimatter or magnetic monopoles would be 30. When you go to the ship's manifest, what does it say? Hmm... maybe the 3do version doesn't have that?

Precious are worth 6, radioactives are 8 and exotics are 25, just like in dos version. If you go to "Cargo" manifest (Cargo menu from main menu) you will see the list, and I checked, you do get 25 RUs for every exotic.

I think what the first message is referring to is that in the file [UQM-install-dir]/doc/manual.txt exotics are listed as being worth 20 RU, rather than 25 as it is in the game (I'm playing the Win2k 0.2 EXE and I found this to be the case).  It's a simple misprint, in the section entitled PLANET LANDING under the listing for EXOTICS.
