Title: Iranian propaganda rips Star Control? Post by: Anthony on February 14, 2008, 11:26:16 pm I was checking some blogs, and I noticed a very interesting image showing that there are similarities between a propaganda mural and Star Control:
(http://jmac.org/images/star_control_mural.jpg) I thought it was quite funny; a very interesting way for Star Control to get mentioned. There's some info at: http://jmac.org/gameshelf/mt4/2008/02/iranian-propaganda-rips-star-c.html http://gridskipper.com/355855/iranian-propaganda-mural-inspired-by-video-game What do you think? Title: Re: Iranian propaganda rips Star Control? Post by: Shiver on February 15, 2008, 01:56:53 am Yup. The second article pretty much proves it -- the two-pronged fingernails are a dead giveaway.

Title: Re: Iranian propaganda rips Star Control? Post by: Valaggar Redux on February 16, 2008, 11:15:36 am Now all TFB has to do to get money for a new Star Control is sue Iran. :P
In times like this I really want copyright laws to be more severe... Now seriously, I wonder what was in the mind of whoever drew that mural. Drawing inspiration from an obscure American video game... I guess he just saw it somewhere and the image got stuck in his memory. This stinks of ground-level creativity. Ever tried composing music, getting instead a melody you had heard a few days before? Then you'll know what I mean. Title: Re: Iranian propaganda rips Star Control? Post by: Resh Aleph on February 16, 2008, 03:15:10 pm Whose hand is that supposed to be, anyway? o_O
Edit: "Whose", not "Who's"! Title: Re: Iranian propaganda rips Star Control? Post by: Resh Aleph on February 17, 2008, 07:31:21 pm So nobody knows what the Star Control poster portrays, or are you just ignoring me? O_o
Title: Re: Iranian propaganda rips Star Control? Post by: Elvish Pillager on February 17, 2008, 07:51:09 pm Look at the label in the diagram. It's the hand of Accolade! ;D
Title: Re: Iranian propaganda rips Star Control? Post by: Cedric6014 on February 17, 2008, 07:54:07 pm If I had to guess (since i don't know), I would say that it isn't supposed to be anyone's hand in particular. In fact, I might suggest it was an Accolade creation rather than a TFB one. Accolade probably thought "hmmm Star Control - we need some cover art to reflect that". Or it could have been something arranged/sanctioned by TFB - either way, that ain't the tenticle of an ur-quan, or an appendage of any race that I can think of.
See, that's what happens when you press for an answer to a question - you get responses like the above. Title: Re: Iranian propaganda rips Star Control? Post by: Resh Aleph on February 17, 2008, 08:35:06 pm Sorry, I just tend to assume you people know more than I do about SC stuff. That's usually the case. :-[
Title: Re: Iranian propaganda rips Star Control? Post by: AngusThermopyle on February 17, 2008, 08:50:18 pm I'm sure Boris Vallejo had a good laugh over this one. I really wish I had ordered the original print when I had the chance. I still have the coupon though... ::)

They did that same thing with the Star Control II cover: (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i108/batman4050/starcontrol2cover.jpg) There's an unknown alien in the background and I've never seen that large ship in the game anywhere.Upon further research, I noticed another similarity with the mystery hand: (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i108/batman4050/th_41CJBK4H8FL_SS500_.jpg) (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i108/batman4050/41CJBK4H8FL_SS500_.jpg) This is a novel from L.
