Title: UQM FIN Post by: zarren3 on October 02, 2008, 09:23:49 pm So.. This post is mainly for finnish people :D because we are talking about UQM translation to finnish, but I write english so everybody know what I talk here ;)
I think many of you know about this already, but because here is no post about this yet (though I didn't find) I decided to make a post. (http://juicy.net63.net/pics/uqmfin/uqm_fin_1.gif) So as I said UQM FIN is UQM a translation (mod) to finnish. (http://juicy.net63.net/pics/uqmfin/uqm_fin_12.gif) Links About it on *juicy* (my homepage and uqm fan site) >> Click here (http://juicy.net63.net/index.php?page=uqmfin) Homepage >>Click here also (http://www2.kyamk.fi/~vi3dhepe/uqm-fin/index.html) (http://juicy.net63.net/pics/uqmfin/uqm_fin_8.gif) (BTW does rules say something about writing lang? Is it *unhappy* to write finnish and does it make modes *frumple*? haha going too Orz!) Yeah I know that this is really old stuff (last update 2006), but working well still. Hey! post here about other translation (if there is) too! Title: Re: UQM FIN Post by: meep-eep on October 02, 2008, 10:20:57 pm See here (http://wiki.uqm.stack.nl/Translations#Translation_projects) for a list of translations.
As for writing languages other than English on the boards: if some text is directed at everyone, it should be in English, and if it's directed at just a few people, it should be in a PM. As for anything in between... I don't really want to spend much time thinking about hypothetical cases, but I guess it would depend on the length, reason, which board, and whether the thread has an English topic and introduction. Title: Re: UQM FIN Post by: Novus on October 03, 2008, 10:11:12 am On the whole, it's probably a good idea, even when discussing translations on the board, to post in English. There are several reasons for this:
That said, when addressing the end users of a translation, using the translation's language is an obvious advantage (if they understood English perfectly, they wouldn't need a translation, would they?). If in doubt, I recommend using both languages. Title: Re: UQM FIN Post by: Tiberian on October 03, 2008, 08:24:47 pm from your webpage:
* UQM FIN is a UQM translation to Finish. * It really gets on my nerves when that is spelled incorrectly. I forgive aboriginals and such for it, but not Finnish people. Er, aboriginals? (http://www.google.fi/search?hl=fi&q=aboriginals&meta=) Are you referring to the Saami (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sami_people), or what? I agree with you though, it's amazing how often there's a problem with the double n. I made a post about translations a while back on PNF, based on the link meeps already provided here. It's impressive that so many translations are already complete, and nice to know that more people will be able to appreciate the game. Has anything been found out about the Japanese voice files? Even if the voices can't be used, are the text files floating around already? I'm not a professional writer, so sometimes comes typos and this time it came totally wrong place :-\ Title: Re: UQM FIN Post by: guesst on October 07, 2008, 08:59:14 pm Darn you!
I thought this thread was to announce UQM was finished, eg FIN, as in old movies and the like. Not that I want this project to end, but I'd like UQM to be to a finished state so that the team can start on some new goals, like making Star Control 1 with SC2 ships. If Dragons doesn't beat you all to it. Title: Re: UQM FIN Post by: Dakkus on December 23, 2012, 04:29:55 am The download link was defunct, but I managed to dig the file from archive.org. I've uploaded it to my webspace and it'll stay there until I lose the space. That'll happen sometime between 2013 and 2053.
So, here's a working link: http://koti.mbnet.fi/tuukkar/uqm_fin_099.zip . By "old movies" I guess you mean "French movies?" Although I will admit that I thought it was somebody asking about the game's ending, too =) Not that I want this project to end, but I'd like UQM to be to a finished state so that the team can start on some new goals, like making Star Control 1 with SC2 ships. I very much doubt that UQM development will ever be truly finished. If nothing else, the release of newer and newer operating systems will be a constant cattle-prod to future support of the program. The good news is that the code is open source, so if you want to see a spin-off project started, you can always dig in yourself! =) |
