What are your favorite ship match ups? (Or maybe, what ships do you like to use the best?)

I think my favorite at the moment is Earthling vs. Slylandro. It's challenging but I can often beat it with just one Earthling. Sometimes I need 2 or even a third occasionally. It's partly luck, knowing how to aim and how to move. I like to practice match-ups by just doing them repetitively until I figure out which strategies work best to win. Mind you, this is against AI but still...

I like using the Vux and Earthling the most in general because they are crappy ships but if piloted well can do quite well for themselves. They are challenging and hence fun. (I think the most damage I've done to a Chmmr avatar that still had its zapsats from an Earthling was 10). Vux vs. Slylandro is also fun. I like fighting druuge, Mycon, Chenjesu, Mmrnmhrm and various other ships with these ships.

I also tend to like the Pkunk and Arilou since they require a lot of discipline and quick maneuvering. Umgah is fun since it sucks so bad that doing any damage makes you feel good. Androsynth also cool due to its unconventional style. Believe it or not I also find the Mycon fun to use. Ur-Quan is also pretty fun although admittedly overpriced and the fighters die easily.

Am I correct in thinking that you have made 10+ topics on melee and still haven't tried multiplayer?

My fav: Ur-Quan vs. Kohr-Ah controlled by an AI.

Why? Because I like to blow stuff up, and the Ur-Quan's gun is best for that. Also, it makes the Dreadnought actually seem powerful (That slug....)

shiver: I've definitely played multiplayer and indeed it's much different than against the AI...

however, I am not as experienced as people like Elvish Pillager. I played him once and he was far superior to any other opponent I've faced before (I mostly whooped the others).

try this one...well it worked back in the old dos version... 1 shofixti + 1 umgah can take out a chmmr. My uncle showed me that one a while ago and I was stunned by how he did it !

i prefer taking out a chmmr with 1 zoq-fot-pik. It costs less than the umgah and you don't lose a ship. :P

my favorite ship to use is Mmrnmhrm because of its Bipolar personality. My favorite matchup is (Me) Chmmr+Chenjesu against a (AI) Ur-Quan because the Chmmr weighs down the Ur-quan's health and the chenjesu's dogi's can deplete its battery so it cant attack and i just move in for the kill. quite fun if you try it.

You mean, you use either Chmmr or Chenjesu against Ur-Quan, first Chmmr then Chenjesu, or first Chenjesu then Chmmr?

Torch vs Ur-Quan. It always makes me laugh watching the computer send wave after wave of fighters only to see them incinerated. And yes i know vs human it would be different.

Torch vs Torch. Both human controlled.   :D

I like to do supox vs supox...The reason is that the computer is badly playing the supox...EXEPT...in supox vs supox where he can from times to time frighten me!

Still fun to play tho!

Against the AI I like playing the Mycon .
Against my friends I like mirror battles of either Mycon fleets or Earthling fleets .
Never played Net-Mellee yet ...

Neither have I! But i still think a Chenjesu/Mmrnmhrm Fleet would be the most powerful.

Heck no, one ZFP could slaughter that fleet!

In general, Arilou vs. anything except kohr-ah is fun.

Surely you mean "Anything except Chmmr"? Arilou vs Kohr-Ah is a nice challenge.

Yes, I did mean that. But I still don't like playing Kohr-Ah. FRIED makes it too hard.

I like both the Chmmr and the Kohr-Ah (and Ur-Quan). And you cant say nothing about it!

the easy ur-quan is...harder than the impossible one. One simple reason...he don't send his fighter to his doom!

When you play Earthling vs. AI Ur-Quan the Ur-Quan will charge at you endlessly when it's set to Easy. When it's set to hard, it will charge you, then try to catch you by turning around and looping around the screen. A smart Earthling pilot, however, will always be able to win as long as he keeps his distance. The best way for an Ur-Quan to win is to just stubbornly chase down the Earthling with its superior speed. In this case, the AI on easy is more of a challenge.

it is still hard to beat an ur-quan.

i love playing with the supox and seeing which AI ships i can beat consistently. The ship is a lot of fun to me, but has so little crew..just 4 more crew and i think it would be a good midlevel ship.  Trying to get to a 1:1 ratio with supox against Korah is a nice challenge.

Ditto what was said earlier about vux- against some ships they are just dogmeat, but completely debilitating an opponent and then moving in for the easy beam-down is fun in a patient, evil sort of way.

Yehat was my favorite ship from SC1 and i was disappointed it played such a small role in SC2.  i was good enough with yehat in SC1 to defeat several Ur Quan dreadnaughts before losing my ship.

For the Regular game i have done a LOT of practice killing ilwrath with spathi- if you get proficient enough with this (its not hard, just requires a lot of patience ) - you can wrack up a lot of RUs early in the game  to upgrade your Command ship-which after you get a good enough speed and acceleration you want to use to kill ilwrath instead.  ive done this mostly when i did not have access to a good resource/rainbow world map. 

i like the ZFP and all (i found their homestar in google earth), its just their ship is so weak. I do like them though (lets just get that straight).
