Title: Being the bad guy
Post by: jaychant on November 24, 2008, 11:11:58 pm
So since I couldn't get on the computer downstairs and work on my game, I decided to try that UQM path again. I've already killed Fwiffo and that Zoq-fot-pik ship. I plan on forging a Thraddash slave empire ;D

Thats a bit harsh don't you think? i mean the spathi and Zoq-Fot-Pik are REALLY helpful throughout the entire game since you can use their ships whenever you want. i just wish that the Mmrnmhrm or Chenjesu were in it........(i'm sad because they arn't, they really need to add them in a future game....)

It's harder than playing the normal game, and I haven't yet beat it that way. Here's what you do:
1. Name yourself Satan and your flagship Hell, Doom, Death, or some other, similar name.
2. Instead of trading with Melnorme, trade with the Druuge
3. Kill enough Thraddash for them to cooperate, and form the Glorious Slave Empire of Satan
4. Name the alliance The Empire of Satan
5. Piss off everyone that you don't need to win. The only ones you don't piss off are the Chmmr, Druuge, Neo Dnyarri, and Thraddash. (You can't piss off the Chmmr or Neo Dnyarri.)

well still, tell me when, if ever, you win like that. then i might try it.

Man, I couldn't do that if I tried, I just like fwiffo too much. However I would like to  know what those glowy bits are :) and the thraddash are fun to annoy.

you don't piss off [...] the Druuge
Well, you know, you ought to do the fuel trick :P

and I personally find it very satisfying to go in with 4x point defense and kill Druuge that try to "salvage" you, but I suppose that requires trading with the Melnorme.

Well, what I mean by "piss off" is "make them so mad they will never be friendly to you". Trading with Druuge is evil anyways (I mean, dude, you're slave trading! What century are they in?!), so it's good to keep trading relations with them. (You also get to use Maulers! ;D)

So one of the conditions of wining the game like this is...

I can see that as a major obstacle in this challenge, if that's the case.

still, it is almost an impossible way to play. I mean you still have to blow up te Sa-Matra.

Why is it ? if you are the bad guy , you can do whatever you want , just stack yourself with a fleet of Spathi to fend off the rampaging Kohr-Ah and you're golden !
Of course you will loose the game , but being the bad guy , what do you care for the galxy anyways ?

Heh, I hadn't considered this. Essentially, to really do the bad guy route you need to let everyone get annihilated, and then laugh about it.

Stock up on Syreen Penetrators, fly over to the Pkunk homeworld and start farming :P

Then sell all the captured crew off to the Druuge! Free ships, and if the Starbase Commander gets angry at you, just go out and farm some more Pkunk slav.. I mean, crew members.

How would the Starbase Commander get mad at you? He's kind of "on script" about just whats going on. Also, can you have Druuge ships on your Flagship?

In-game, the only consequence is increased crew cost (up to a maximum of 27). If you're brave, you can buy lots of crew at 3 RU, sell a few hundred of them to the Druuge, then come back to the starbase and sell the rest at 27 RU :P

Ehm... If you are the bad guy, you murder the Spathi, you don't make friends with them. So you can't stock up on Spathi ships.

Stock up on Syreen Penetrators, fly over to the Pkunk homeworld and start farming :P

But you don't need the Syreen, either. So you won't have Penetrators :P

You only get to have:
Earthling Cruiser
Thraddash Torch
Druuge Mauler
Chmmr Avatar

Oh also you missed the few useless Umgah Drones they forcibly give you later on :P

You don't have to get them if you pick up their turdtoad from the smoking ruin of their home planet :)

There's a humorous bit of dialogue specifically for that situation

actually, if you wait long enough, you lose. the Kohr-Ah will eventually get to earth.

Title: Re: Being the bad guy
Post by: jaychant on December 01, 2008, 03:30:32 am
On that topic, just wondering: If the Kohr-Ah reach Earth and then you manage to beat the Sa-Matra, do you win the game? If that's the case, you can win by just not returning to Earth.

Title: Re: Being the bad guy
Post by: Draxas on December 01, 2008, 05:20:38 pm
I believe the game simply ends with a long distance transmission from the Kohr-Ah telling you they've wiped out your race. So no, you actually have to destroy the Sa-Matra before the Kohr-Ah make it to Earth.

No, when they reach Earth, their sphere of influence expands and when you reach the sphere, then you lose.

Are you sure about that? I distinctly remember getting that message whilst in Ilwrath space.

Yes, I am sure. I remember quite clearly the first time I lost. I noticed, while trying to figure out what to do next, that the Kohr-Ah had reached Sol and their sphere of influence was expanding (quite rapidly, I might add). I was way over in Arilou space. At first I thought I'd hide in Quasi space, but then I thought I'd go to Sol and see what happens. When I reached the border of the Kohr-Ah's (expanded and still expanding) sphere of influence (near Spathi space, I think), a Kohr-Ah transmission came up telling me that I had lost the game (I think it was that the humans had been exterminated).

Luki, in Ilwrath space, the Kohr-Ah sphere doesn't have to expand much, so of course you didn't notice what I'm talking about.

Well, still, you need to destroy the Sa-Matra, or you will lose eventually.
