Title: Can't finish the game
Post by: kuma on December 15, 2008, 07:58:29 am
I'm at the sa matra.  The Pkunk and Yehat have come to my rescue but I can't shoot out the red thingies with the Pkunk.  They keep getting blown away even though I resurrect them lots.  Does someone have a video of how to do this?  Hey Shiver?  I've seen your ship to ship videos.  It seems like most of the people posting have finished the game a bunch of times and are now only  interested in techy things.  I just want to finish the game.  Help!

This Youtube video shows it well enough - just go in circles , Pkunk is faster than all the projectiles in that battle , do a flyby don't worry if most your shots miss - you have enough ammo .

The shield generators have quite a few hitpoints. You need to riddle each of them with bullets (6-10 shots I guess, but I haven't looked at the Sa-Matra's code) to knock them out. The only advice I can give you is try and use the side guns rather than the front gun. I'm not especially keen on making a video of this. If I made a Sa-Matra video, I'd probably try to do it with Druuge or something. I guess you could use the Battlefrank video posted in here if you need something as reference.

Here's a way to cheat: When you're at the Sa-Matra, open up the Game menu and then go into Settings. Turn on Cyborg. There are three Cyborg settings. Any setting will do. Now fight the Sa-Matra. If you do this, the game will skip the Sa-Matra fight altogether.

The generators have 15 HP each.

I never knew this. Why doesn't the cyborg try to fight the Sa-Matra?

But that way is of course cheap and cheaty and no scrupulous player would EVER do that.

Geez, 15? So much for beating the end boss with a Druuge mercenary.

It doesn't know how to.

What would happen if the cyborg was pitted against the Sa-Matra?

Assuming it didn't error out, it would probably charge in way too close, not aim at the generators, and generally act idiotically. Moreso than usual.

Commenting out sc2code/comm.c:1528-1530 (which makes the last battle be against an empty list of enemies if cyborg is on), results in the computer doing absolutely nothing against the Sa-Matra, as far as I can see.
