I didn't do it, I found it.  And the way I understand, if something is "shit" it is bad, but if it is "the shit", it is more awesome than awesome.  Don't know why, that's just the way it is.

There's a similar thing in Hebrew slang - when something is really awesome, we say it is SONNAmabitch. Go figure. :P

That would be because I translated it to English for you guys... :P The actual Hebrew is "BENzona" (or "BATzona" for feminine nouns). The stress on the first syllable is key (it is normally on the last one, like in English).
