So, what are your favorite ships? (Don't think about how good they are, tell me what you like, not what ship is strongest)

My answer:

Slylandro Probe; It's fun to zip past my opponents attacks and then bombard them with lightning. Not very effective and usually fatal, but very fun.

Ur-Quan Dreadnought; The classic giant, powerful energy bolt beats all! ;D

Ilwrath Avenger; The idea of hiding in the darkness and then suddenly uncloaking with a powerful fire attack is awesome! I really wish Melee had a split-screen for this very reason (the cloaking would actually work).

Syreen Penetrator; You get to take your enemy's crew! If it really was effective, this ship would be really AWESOME! ;D


Also, what are your least favorite ships?

My answer:

Chenjesu Broodhome; It is VERY boring no matter what side you're on. It's also annoying to fight a Chenjesu with 5 DOGIs keeping you from fighting back.

Kohr-Ah Marauder; In order to pilot it with good results, you always have to run away. What fun is that?

I dunno, the topic of favorite ship seems like kind of a pointless retread at this point. I could do a "You post the ship you want to use, I'll tell you why you should set your hair on fire instead" thread and it would make for more lively discussion.

So then, your favorite is the Ilwrath Avenger? I like that ship, too. :P

To be on topic I like the Guardian.

I'd like to keep the number of Shiver threads floating around down to a manageable number. Maybe a little while longer and I'll do it. You, on the other hand, promised us something special in Starbase Cafe and have not delivered.  >:(

My graphics fell through so I'm doing them in excel and paint. Just wait til after christmas.

My new favorite ship is probably the Vux intruder, due to the fun I have with it in netmelee. Mycon too is pretty rad.
After that:
Earthling
Mmrnmhrm (only for doing close-in laser attacks though, the missiles are kind of boring)
Arilou (theoretically undefeatable, hence a test to a pilot's patience)
Chenjesu. Don't ask me why, I just like it.

I tend to like ships that are weak but can be used to deal a lot of damage if used skillfully (or with a bit of luck).

I also like the Kohr-ah because there is much room for creative use of the blades.

Zipping Drones and jumping Skiffs ever so small,
Blazing Guardians and Avatars impressive tall,
and the burning Torches leave their trails
after a number of battles the crew always fails.

Confusing Traders, sliding Blades,
Slylandros malprogrammed probes,
Fighters and DOGIs following everywhere;
and a hidden Avenger who is hiding there;

Frightened Eluders evading Terminators,
X-Forming Robots, they're helping all,
in our rebellion to bring the downfall,
of our civil warring Ur-Quan Masters.




Sorry, both Ur-Quan races are indicated double, but their civil war helps bringing their downfall..... And I did not want to change meep-eeps part.

I like the Thraddash Torch. It rules against cyborgs. But I haven't play melee much against human opponents so...not sure how good that ship really is.

The Torch is incredibly effective against humans. Most ships are powerless as you stay out of range with the afterburner while slowly chipping away at the enemy ship with the Mark 6 blaster.

Unfortunately, this means that the Torch guarantees very stale, boring gameplay.

Versus the stupid cyborg Thraddash carves up.

But for PvP, it’s considered by most to be a faulty ship. It can escape from any situation with its afterburners and its primary weapon is incredibly weak.  So you can never catch it or destroy it, but it can keep its distance and fire its pebbles at you. By this rationale its an excellent ship and horribly undervalued – but only if its controller is prepared to fight for hours at a time.

Hence it’s not really used by anyone in PvP, or at least anyone who actually wants a meaningful battle.
