Title: I'm not smart enough for this game... Post by: Hunter on March 17, 2009, 01:27:54 am I've partially played this game four times. I want to like it, but I have great difficulty accepting games that take advantage of me. I want to finish the game, but I can find absolutely nothing of help. I bought everything Greenish sells, I got the device, and I've messed around the Sa-Matra for hours. I don't know if I have been in every system, but I have difficulty believing the secret to destroying the Sa-matra is a planet no one thought was worth mentioning. I am told "I need to make the device stronger."
How? No one knows. He might as well say "Go read a walkthrough, I'm done being of interest." I think I've spent weeks doing pointless sub quests like the Syreens' and Illwraths'. In fact I took the game to the middle of 2160 this way, which was no help at all. Title: Re: I'm not smart enough for this game... Post by: jaychant on March 17, 2009, 01:36:08 am You don't modify the bomb, the Chmmr do once you're actually ready to confront the Sa-Matra. They tell you what you need if you ask.

Also jay, if he thinks the Syreen subquest is unnecessary, what you told him isn't going to help at all. I suggest spoilering the race name there. (click to show/hide) All in all, the game doesn't take advantage of you. But it doesn't hold your hand either. It's not enough to just trigger events, you need to understand why you trigger them as well. Title: Re: I'm not smart enough for this game... Post by: Hunter on March 22, 2009, 09:42:19 am The Chmmr say that that it's a nice bomb, also that I'll need a thing like that to destroy the Sa-matra. I've blown myself up a number of times trying to get them to make the device a weapon.
What am I supposed to know about this situation? Oh let me add I've talked to the pet until he repeats himself. He tells me what I already know and then doesn't explain what I am missing. :'( Title: Re: I'm not smart enough for this game... Post by: jaychant on March 23, 2009, 01:54:46 am The Chmmr will modify the bomb when you are fully prepared to take on the Sa-Matra, but first you need to free the Chmmr.
Title: Re: I'm not smart enough for this game... Post by: Death 999 on March 24, 2009, 03:16:56 am I do say, this was one thing that kind of comes out of nowhere. Have you tried to find any shofixti? That search will yield relevant clues.
As far as I can tell, that's the ONLY clue to this. And if you bring the appropriate people right away, you'll never get a chance to read this text. It's not good. Title: Re: I'm not smart enough for this game... Post by: Draxas on March 24, 2009, 04:23:05 pm Hmmm... I seem to recall the Chenjesu themselves mentioning something about it as well, so I don't think the Shofixti are your only lead.
Title: Re: I'm not smart enough for this game... Post by: Death 999 on March 24, 2009, 07:04:51 pm Chmmr.txt does not contain any relevant mentions of 'sun' or 'mycon', except for one which indicates they don't know what the device, which triggers only if you bring it to them.
This is not promising. Title: Re: I'm not smart enough for this game... Post by: Draxas on March 24, 2009, 08:23:00 pm Perhaps the Melnorme, then. I know somebody else mentions it, since I didn't even know about the Shofixti dialog until I read through the complete script years after I finished the game.
Title: Re: I'm not smart enough for this game... Post by: Death 999 on March 25, 2009, 03:37:27 pm Not the Melnorme either, nor the Syreen. If the game requires you to pull information out of the Yehat, that's just cruel.
Title: Re: I'm not smart enough for this game... Post by: Lukipela on March 25, 2009, 04:25:15 pm I'm sorry, am I missing something?

Really, the biggest hitch in this whole sequence is the Mycon homeworld, but that's pretty well documented here, at least. Title: Re: I'm not smart enough for this game... Post by: Death 999 on March 27, 2009, 05:34:03 pm Quote from: Lukipela I take all those to be clues that you need to find something that produces energy to get help from those guys. Finding the actual device on the other hand take a bit more luck. Yeah. Knowing you need scads of energy? Easy. Knowing where you should look for it? Effing hard. Requiring Tanaka or Yehat contact is just messed up (one you can screw yourself out of, the other is downright scary to try to get). That sorely belongs in the Melnorme alien races info or Mycon dialog. Title: Re: I'm not smart enough for this game... Post by: Lukipela on March 27, 2009, 08:27:38 pm Yeah, but you'll be cruising the Mycon sphere looking for you-know what anyhow. If you have any drive, you'll want as many as possible as they can be sold. That sphere is one of the few where you're encouraged to go exploring. Mycon ships are easy credits as well.
Title: Re: I'm not smart enough for this game... Post by: Death 999 on March 27, 2009, 11:47:15 pm Yes, that is how it happened to us. I do not believe that is enough. It is reasonable to suppose that people will find it. It is clear how they might not, while following all reasonable/remaining possible leads.
Title: Re: I'm not smart enough for this game... Post by: Hunter on March 29, 2009, 01:39:51 am I already sent the Mycon to Organon.
I already gathered um, egg sac or whatever it is called in an effort to trade it for other Druuge items (Greenish later helpfully informed me only the sphere is helpful). I don't think I've found the Chenjesu. I started the civil war, and I don't see how that helps me win (unless it takes some time). I also turned the Pkunk away repeatedly, although I don't see how that specifically helps me either. Unless I'm supposed to be wrapping the device in an egg sac to make it a weapon, which doesn't work, I don't understand. I am getting good with Super-melee whilst this goes on, I can't play tomorrow though. Title: Re: I'm not smart enough for this game... Post by: Alvarin on March 29, 2009, 03:00:08 am Maybe it's time for a little spoiler .
If you think you can manage by yourself , ignore it . (click to show/hide) Title: Re: I'm not smart enough for this game... Post by: jaychant on March 29, 2009, 06:02:09 am Actually, the planet remains the same when the Mycon return IIRC.

Title: Re: I'm not smart enough for this game... Post by: jaychant on March 29, 2009, 02:49:13 pm One time I missed the intended window, so at first I thought that I would have to go back to a previous save. But then I went to the place just to make sure, and as it happens, it was the same.

Granted...they've discussed how they have hot energy, but I thought I had found what the Mycon had to offer, and what Organon has to do with it all eludes me. :-\ Title: Re: I'm not smart enough for this game... Post by: Hunter on April 04, 2009, 01:07:44 am Well, I finished the game ;D
Thank you all for helping. I haven't any clue when the sun device was mentioned. I don't think I got the shield, either...those items are so well hidden in the vast number of systems. Title: Re: I'm not smart enough for this game... Post by: Death 999 on April 04, 2009, 02:56:41 am You can buy the location of the Taalo homeworld from the Melnorme, as ancient history #4. Also, the Orz tell you where the 'playground' is, which is the same place. That is amply documented.
