orz is a pictograph depicting someone bowing down. The "o" is the head, the "r" is the arms and body, and the "z" is the legs. Is there possibly a connection between this pictograph and the Orz in Star Control II, or is it just a coincidence? If you throw random characters together, you can make pictographs. Given the number of these things, it's hardly even improbable.
It would be a coincidence of the highest order if the Orz had ANYTHING to do with bowing. Either that, or the creators noticed this resemblance at the time they made SC2. Going by the videos, it's a thoroughly scary phenomenon - all the comments are just 'orz'.
