Yeah I said it. Bring back Valaggar. We've already dealt with him at his worst. Aside from a few acts of insanity during his earliest days (which in retrospect are hilarious), Valaggar was a credit to the community. I don't have his e-mail address, nor the know-how to e-stalk him myself. Can someone help me out?

I read some of his posts back, and liked them :D. So please bring him back. Bring him back. Bring him back foregood.

EDITED TO ADD: Point being, bringing back Valaggar wouldn't impact this aspect of his behavior, so why even bring it up?

I'm not part of this story but after digging up several old threads (especially the ones concerning Valaggar), I would very much like to see the sequel(s) ;)

Those two were very......"intresting" (is the word I'll use) people. To say the least. I habor no ill feelings about either one of them.

Slightly off topic, but I remember a thread a while back in which we presented melee challenges to Shiver and he posted the result in video form. If anything would give the forum a spark, I would think that a similar thread  with good Star Control players in the community would do it.

I do have a few ideas for challenges, if anyone is up for it.

Although this video wouldn't look pretty, if there's a good way to defeat a Slylandro with a Syreen, I'd like to see it.

I actually have Valaggar's email, but I'm not going to send him  message. He was a troubled young man, and this place only added to that. While we may not be better off without him, he may well be better off without us.

What? Come on, we/star control can't be THAT important.

Valaggar was a nice guy, bur pretty sensitive all in all. He wasn't really able to roll with the punches and shake off unimportant internet drama. He got hounded pretty mercilessly here and battered a bit over at the SCDB as well. It's not SC specific, I think any forum/site he joined would cause him the same kind of problems.

No . It's a community . And as such people value co-members opinion on themselves .

Then I guess you've learned something new today huh? Words can hurt and some people take things more seriously than others. Not everyone has a thick skin. Especially young people who aren't as blasé about the internet as some of us older stage hands.  Beyond anything else, I think Valaggar wanted to be liked and accepted. That didn't work out, and so he was disappointed and hurt.

Guys like Valaggar and Jaychant just seem young and a bit obnoxious. Probably more of a stage than anything. I know I went through that stage when I first discovered the net and (hopefully) am a bit wiser for it.

With a little patience and understanding from the forum members, guys like Valaggar can and will come around in the long run.

He was liked well enough when he left. When was Val ever abused on SCDB?



The similarities (many known posting sprees, people yelling at them) are superficial only IMO. It's not fair to lump those two together.



I'm gonna go ahead and confess that I have no idea what either of you are talking about. First guess would Nuclear's shitposting, but that is so far from what I think would improve the forum that the notion borders on offensive.

Val was/is an intelligent, passionate fan and we are poorer in his absence. I've heard from him lately and all I'll say is that I think he should be left alone until he returns on his own, if ever.

Then this was an excercize in futility, perhaps it's better if this topique is closed then :).

Right around the end he ran into a lot of hostility with sockpuppest and crapposting. He also had a rough time in the religion thread. And a few other instances. Not all of it was undeserved, but still.

I dunno. My heart got warmed and that's well worth a topic i think. Valaggar's might be as well if he ever returns and finds it. Sometimes doing good is easy.

Good guess. At the end of the day, despite the fact that he did make some real contributions to the forum eventually, I think that and sockpuppets are what most folks remember about Valaggar. Even when he was being insightful, he seemed to be fighting a losing battle of wills with his juvenile side.


Didn't we all? I can remember being an obnoxious twit for a short while back on my first forum (way back in the heady days when Prodigy was one of the big 3 internet providers, and people still referred to them as BBSes). I was probably Val's age or younger back then, but I've known 30 and 40 year old folks who go through that phase when they first discover message boards, too.


Considering the circumstances under which he left, I'd have to say that's probably the best idea. While I have to say that things have been quieter lately, and much fewer interesting topics pop up, Val definitely needed to find the right state of mind for himself. Once he does, and if he wants to come back, I'd be happy to see him too.

I was just thinking how the Lance Vader Utwig voice pack was a good idea, despite the controversy Valaggar caused when he e-mailed TFB to get them to make it official.

I tried to e-stalk him once because I missed him, but he never responded to any of the messages I sent him.  I found him on several sites.  Forget if I ever got his email.
