Title: It's Christmas time... (Art links)
Post by: Lukipela on December 12, 2009, 07:37:30 am
And you are SC fans. If I were you, I'd check out the PNF front page (http://www.star-control.com) for some christmassy goodness by a talented artist.

EDIT: Durr, thanks Son!

EDIT: Changed the topic just a tad in case you're all just a bunch of cynical Christmas haters.

I am somewhat underwhelmed by your positive responses. Hopefully everyone is busy Christmas shopping or something and UQM hasn't turned into a place where Global Warming is the only thing people talk about.

The link is broken. Other than that the art is simply awesome. I love zarlas drawing style so much - simple and adorable^^

Yes, we should definitely be encouraging her. Love her sense of humour, love her style, love to see more.

I have a complaint about that last card - ZEX has his head tilted down, when upon VUX encounters in space they state explicitly that they do not share this range of motion!

J/K , the cards are great! So far my favored is the one with the Yehat.

That's what I call knowing your SC lore!

The way it holds its hands is very cute.

Actually, I thought it looked a bit like Mr. Burns... "Excellent!"
That kind of puts a new spin on the picture, doesn't it? :D

"On the third day of Christmas... "

Does this mean we are going to get at least 12 of these fantastic works of art?   ;D Merry Christmas indeed!

Hmm.. I'm not sure if I've misunderstood you or not, but Isuppose it's a bit silly to assume that all UQMF:ers know how the SCDB works. So here's a quick walkthrough of the relevant parts.

www.star-control.com is the address for PNF. The front page displays the five most recent news posts. Currently, four of those are Christmas cards. All you need to do is to scroll downwards to read the older ones. In the first Christmas card post, I've mentioned that we are indeed posting one card a day right up until Christmas Eve. Four have been posted, so there are eight to go.

When there are more than five Christmas cards posted, i.e the day after tomorrow, you will only be seeing the five most recent. If you want to see the other news posts and comments, you need to go to News and Updates (http://www.star-control.com/forum/index.php/board,7.0.html), our News board. This functions just like the UQMF, so the topics are indexed by most recent post rather than in what order they were posted. Note that you need to be a SCDB member to comment.

If you don't care about my witty writing and just want to appreciate Zarla's art, then you can also go directly to our Christmas card gallery (http://www.star-control.com/hosted/christmas-cards/). It gets updated when I make a newspost and contains all cards posted so far.

No matter what way you view the Christmas cards, I'd ask that you take a minute out of your schedule to thank Zarla for bringing us some holiday cheer.

It's ZEX. I'm sure he's had himself surgically modified, there and elsewhere.

and Luki - a single day? Patience!

It's still 10 days to go before it's christmas, why be in the mood so early? :)

Meep: Heh, didn't think of that. I guess it makes the Yehat a bit more sinister eh?

and Luki - a single day? Patience!

24 hours shoulf be plenty of time for a response on the busier SC forum. Sure I'm a bit impatient, but I'm mostly just excited...

Of course. I realized my excited folly soon after I posted and just didn't do anything about it. And I will definately make a point to thank Zarla. These are all supurb so far!

Yeah, I figured you figured since you used to be around the SCDB a lot in the wilder days. But it struck me that some users here might not know the system so I elaborated. Syreen/Traddash is sweet IMO.

The  Syreen/Traddash is probably my favorite at the moment. The Spathi might have been cuter if his eye was one of the tree bulbs but is excellent none-the-less.

I really liked the new Utwig gown, it suits their description by Supox as a merry race. By the reluctant pose of the Utwig I can say the Ultron warned him about the Umgah :)

Didn't really like the one with the ORZ - it's out of character. I'd understand much more if those were Slylandro peeking over the shoulder, it fits so much more. The ORZ, I didn't get the impression of them(it) being curios.

Really nice cards.
And now I've seen a cute Ur-Quan too...

i admit it, this is mostly cause we got a Hayes at damned (http://community.livejournal.com/damned/) and he was on my mind. :B CREEPY ORZ IS WATCHING YOU MAKE JELLO
why do all my orz look like such creepers

Really nice cards.

I'm glad you enjoyed them.Overall I had a lot of fun posting these and seeing reactions. As long as I find a willing artist, we'll probably try to do something similar next year as well.

Perhaps Lukipela could work some of his charm and convince Zarla that she needs to finsih that Sketch of hers that he posted over at PNF. I mean, what a tease......Ok, ok [/selfish_greed]  ;).. Anyway, happy New Years everyone!

Say, how do you view older news posts on PNF? I can't find an archive link.

In the News section (http://www.star-control.com/forum/index.php/board,7.0.html), Or did you mean older than that?

Yeah, I mean all of them.

Well, all the stuff before 2003 was posted and indexed in a different way. Most of it still exists, but it isn't on site right now. We'll probably stick it back up at some stage, but it's not a priority right now. Is there something in particular pre-2003 you're wondering about?

Aand that's the full twelve. A big thanks to all the UQMF regulars for giving feedback and letting Saria know all her hard work is appreciated  :P

Anyway, we've got one final thing in store for everyone tomorrow, so it's not over yet!
