Title: PNF News Flash: Pkunk Game
Post by: Lukipela on February 10, 2010, 07:12:43 pm
Howdy folks,

So today we have something pretty fun for you. A while back, we played a little game (http://www.star-control.com/forum/index.php/topic,2008.0.html). Pretty simple thing, choose what to do and see what happens. There were a lot of alternative endings in it, so playing through them all on the forum seemed a bit pointless. Instead, I teamed up with RTyp06 (http://www.star-control.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=343) to make a fun little game of it that you can download and play through on your own (http://www.star-control.com/hosted/Pkunk_Game/pkunk_1.4.exe). Unfortunately, the game is windows only. So to compensate for that, there's also a HTML version (http://star-control.com/hosted/Pkunk_Game) that you can play right here on the PNF.

Hopefully you'll have a grand time! And if not, better luck in your next life!

Lukipela

Have fun guys!

:o Great work Luki, this is way to awesome...I'm speechless! :o

I hope you'll get rewarded in your afterlife (RTyp06 too) for all the effort you've made to make the world a bit happier place for all UQM fans :D :)

On my first run I ended up reincarnating into a Yehat! I couldn't ask for a better ending, the Yehat are my favorite^^

I've reincarnated as a Pkunk and it has taken me a while to chain to Spathi.

That turned out nice.

Btw, http://star-control.com/hosted/Pkunk_Game/02.php is missing the page footer.

Yeah, this was a fun little project and has me thinking in other directions when it comes to SC inspired fan games. For instance, I always wanted to be a melnorme trader and what would my superiors think if I bungled a trade or two? Or if I was bested by a Druuge? Hmmm... ;)

Does it work in WINE?

Your style attributes have pixel values for width. Could you change them to percentages? It's generally bad practice to specify the exact size of a web page, because then a horizontal scrollbar is added on any computer with a narrower screen.

Good. One of the main gripes I have with the SC2 fandom is that people always seem to either want to make a melee clone or a sequel. both of those are tall orders that demand a lot of resources. There's a lot of smaller and easier games set in the SC universe that could be made faster and with a larger probability of success.

Celtic: you'll have to ask RTyp06 about those things, I have no idea.

Celtic, I duinno, try it? The requirements for Game Maker are Direct X and Windows XP or higher. If you have any doubts just use Luki's html version.

For the record, it runs under WINE, but in such a way as to be unplayable. Namely, I don't see the images except for a few seconds after right-clicking on the window, and that action also seems to reset the game to the beginning.

I guess I'll have to make do with the web version.
