Source: http://www.areavoices.com/astrobob/?blog=78068 Is this the beginning of the end? Post by: Draxas on May 14, 2010, 04:09:57 pm Well, considering that the color bands are caused by massive storms, it doesn't seem too farfetched that changes in weather patterns could alter the planet's appearance. Take a look at how much NEB has intensified in that second photo. It could just mean that things are moving in a different direction in the atmosphere, and the storms composing SEB are dispersing.
I wouldn't exactly call it an apocolypse. ;) Title: Re: Oh dear, Jupiter's ring has faded! Post by: Dabir on May 14, 2010, 06:20:18 pm New feature for UQM: Gas giants that do that.

Post by: Megagun on May 14, 2010, 08:24:38 pm Quote Every 3-15 years, the belt, which is normally dark reddish-brown in color and typically divided in two by the south equatorial belt zone, fades from view. ... The phenomenon goes by the name of the South Equatorial Belt Disturbance, and the changes are dramatic enough to see their evolution night by night. Title: Re: Oh dear, Jupiter's ring has faded!
