Title: Aalib with version 0.6.2?
Post by: ocirne94 on May 23, 2010, 10:44:09 pm
Hello everybody,
I've recently discovered that uqm could run under aalib, and found a screenshot (http://sc2.sourceforge.net/screenshots/aalib.php) of it. I was interested and made some tries in that direction, but all I could get (Kubuntu 10.04, aalib and SDL-with-all-options-enabled) was:

~$SDL_VIDEODRIVER=aalib uqm
The Ur-Quan Masters v0.6.2 (compiled Aug 30 2008 11:39:14)
This software comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY;
for details see the included 'COPYING' file.

Netplay protocol version 0.3. Requiring remote UQM version 0.5.4.
Initializing base SDL functionality.
Using SDL version 1.2.14 (compiled with 1.2.12)
Using AAlib driver: X11 driver 1.1 (X11)
Using config dir '/home/user/.uqm/'
Using '/usr/share/games/uqm/content' as base content dir.
Saved games are kept in /home/user/.uqm/save/.
Initializing SDL with OpenGL support.
SDL driver used: aalib
SDL initialized.
Initializing Screen.
Couldn't set OpenGL 1024x768x32 video mode: OpenGL not available
Couldn't set OpenGL 1024x768x24 video mode: OpenGL not available
Couldn't set OpenGL 1024x768x16 video mode: OpenGL not available
Couldn't set any OpenGL 1024x768 video mode!
Could not initialize video: no fallback at start of program!

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Ocirne

Try starting UQM with '--nogl'.

Alternatively, before switching to AAlib, change resolution to 320x240 or 640x480 and make sure framebuffer mode is allowed, so that OpenGL isn't needed.

Ok, I've got it to open, and recognize the 5 main menu options, but I'm only able to navigate between them without choosing one...how is key mapping set?

Edit: my uqm is dumb and doesn't know --nogl option; I had to set it manually in uqm.cfg :P
Edit2: after some seconds, credits music starts.
Edit3 (hope it's the last): Yay, managed to start new game, but the result is the following:

I dunno..... I mean, it's nice and all, but II tend to prefer the ANSI build:

:o I must be using the wrong build options...

;D Just had a sudden bout of early '90s BBS nostalgia that I had to relieve (and re-live).

Hopefully these things abate quickly, otherwise I'll be posting 4-color CGA versions soon. Could get ugly.

Wow, how do you do that? Is that a mod of some sort, or just some obscure compile option?

Haha.... just http://picoe.ca/products/pablodraw/ , I'm afraid, and then some window border/title forgery.
