Title: Took me the better part of 2 months but. Post by: DNolan on October 17, 2011, 05:03:20 am I finally did it.(http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh65/todd10k/victory.jpg)
The hardest fought battle of my sc2 life. i was fighting that avatar for nearly 5 minutes. Title: Re: Took me the better part of 2 months but. Post by: DNolan on October 17, 2011, 05:05:23 am Before anyone says anything, yes, the AI is on it's hardest difficulty. And i know leylands lashers don't contain an arilou ship, but without it it's literally impossible to do. Anyone else got any nice screenshots from the end of their hard fought melees? Or, better yet, anyone wanna fight me? :) my email is todd10000@gmail.com if anyone want's to play :)
Title: Re: Took me the better part of 2 months but. Post by: oldlaptop on October 17, 2011, 05:18:04 am If you really want to play Netmelee with someone, you should be in the official Netmelee IRC channel, #uqm-arena on the Freenode network. It's not very busy most of the time, but if you stop in at a good time you can find a game.
Title: Re: Took me the better part of 2 months but. Post by: Alvarin on October 17, 2011, 12:32:28 pm I usually fight lone Syreen against old Hierarchy. Somewhat challenging. I mostly win.
Title: Re: Took me the better part of 2 months but. Post by: Death 999 on October 17, 2011, 03:43:23 pm literally impossible? Doubtful. But I agree it could be hard. You're given an Ur-quan to work with, which isn't exactly the most versatile. Let me give it a try… Well, if the pkunk would ever stop regenerating, I'd be doing a lot better!
Title: Re: Took me the better part of 2 months but. Post by: Tiberian on October 17, 2011, 05:40:20 pm I say the same thing oldlaptop said.
If you want to fight someone good at melee go to the irc channel. No doubt you will find out that skills against AI mean absolutely nothing against a talented human opponent. Good luck. If you want to fight someone good at melee go to the irc channel. No doubt you will find out that skills against AI mean absolutely nothing against a talented human opponent. Good luck. No kidding. Just about every tactic that's useful against the AI depends on the AI's stupidity. For example: Spathi B.U.T.T.s, Androsynth bubbles, and Thraddash afterburner are made excessively useful because the AI mindlessly chases you. Against a player, Androsynth bubbles are mostly only useful against fast, short-range ships that have no choice but to chase you, Spathi B.U.T.T.s are pretty much useless, and the Thraddash afterburner is completely useless as a weapon. And like I said, that's just one example. Title: Re: Took me the better part of 2 months but. Post by: DNolan on October 17, 2011, 09:10:28 pm thanks for the advice. I'm in the channel now :)
Title: Re: Took me the better part of 2 months but. Post by: Death 999 on October 17, 2011, 10:13:56 pm Let's see:
I send Earthling, they send Druuge. I take 4 damage from the planet, but otherwise OK. They send Chmmr. Earthling does a whole 4 damage. I send Orz. Chmmr splatted, no damage. They send Spathi. Spathi splatted, but I do hit the planet. They send Orz. I win, with a few marines. They send Melnorme. I spam marines and win with significant losses. They send Androsynth. I do land a hit before being taken down. I send Mycon. Win immediately. They send Mycon. I win with some damage, which I quickly make up. They send Supox. I win easily. They send Kohr-Ah. Due to marvellous AI stupidity, I pull off a win with barely any health left. They send Ur-Quan. My plasmoids cut a swath through its fighters, but they do eventually catch me. Enemy Ur-Quan at half life. I sent Ur-Quan, destroy it with 4 losses from asteroids. They send Chenjesu. I am not good at this matchup, and I lose after landing about 3 hits. I send Androsynth, win with about 1/3 damage. They send Yehat, land right behind of me, facing me, and blast me out of the sky. Remaining ships: Earthling, Pkunk, Yehat (54 points), all perfect health Title: Re: Took me the better part of 2 months but. Post by: oldlaptop on October 18, 2011, 03:29:08 am I send Orz. A human knows not to use Spathi or Melnorme on Orz, or even to mirror it if Androsynth is available. A human also knows (or at the very least will figure out pretty soon) not to blindly chase Orz with Chmmr for five minutes while being pounded with the cannon, but that's another matter entirely... Title: Re: Took me the better part of 2 months but. Post by: onpon4 on October 18, 2011, 05:49:45 am You have to admit, though, there are a couple ships the AI plays OK with. Namely Pkunk and Slylandro. This makes sense; these two ships require reflexes more than intelligence.
Unfortunately, it still manages to screw up with the Pkunk, mostly because it's unwilling to shoot more than one shot at a time... >_> Title: Re: Took me the better part of 2 months but. What DOES the sapient Chmmr player do against Orz? Hope the Orz player screw up by facing them too long, and only at the last few moments use the tractor? What DOES the sapient Chmmr player do against Orz? Hope the Orz player screw up by facing them too long, and only at the last few moments use the tractor? The Orz player has the major problem that it needs to be in empty space for its strategy to work, AND it's made much more dangerous if it has to chase the Chmmr. So the strategy could be as simple as orbiting the planet and using the tractor beam at the right time. There's not a lot of wiggle room for the Orz player to make mistakes; the Chmmr, on the other hand, can survive quite a few successful Orz assaults. |
