Title: VUX Standards of Beauty Post by: Admiral Zeratul on October 27, 2011, 08:18:50 am It is clear that the VUX have a great appreciation for aesthetics, though it is drastically different from ours. They consider the human form to be the ugliest thing in existence, but they do appreciate the appearance of fellow VUX, given their considerable vanity. The question remains, though. What does a VUX individual find "beautiful"?
Title: Re: VUX Standards of Beauty Post by: Steve-O on October 28, 2011, 01:17:48 am Well, other VUX, obviously. Otherwise the species would probably have a difficult time propagating.
However, I get the impression that their "distaste" of the human form is at least partially due to wounded pride rather than actual disgust. The VUX are a prideful race and their pride was wounded by Captain Rand's comment, so now they take every opportunity to lash out at humans in kind. I'm sure part of it is genuine disgust (if the range of motion in our necks really makes us look like jabbing corpses to them) but I think most of it is just posturing. The VUX stayed on the "we were offended" story until they were given a LOT of pressure from the Captain constantly apologizing. They prided themselves in being incredibly open-minded. It seems crazy that they would sacrifice all that pride to make it look like they weren't offended by an insult that they actually were offended by. Title: Re: VUX Standards of Beauty Post by: JudgeYohance on October 28, 2011, 06:26:10 am Not a bad question. If we showed them a picture of Michael Jackson just before his death and of Jackson during the 80's, we might get a better idea of there taste in physical appearance.
Title: Re: VUX Standards of Beauty Post by: Wolframm on October 28, 2011, 03:58:51 pm If humans are so ugly, how could the VUX stand the Androsynth then? Androsynth look just like humans -- or almost just like humans at least. Since the Ur-Quan obliged the Hierarchy members to cooperate and assist each other, why didn't the VUX rather choose to get slave-shielded then?
Title: Re: VUX Standards of Beauty Post by: Draxas on October 28, 2011, 04:01:06 pm The can't stand the Androsynth either. The two races just stayed out of each others' way, because they knew they had no choice but to cooperate with each other, and the VUX didn't have any grudges there despite the similarities in appearance.

They're not so disgusted that they would sacrifice all of their space exploration freedoms just to avoid seeing them. Think about it: lots of people are irrationally afraid of spiders, but do you think they would sacrifice freedom just to be kept away from spiders? Title: Re: VUX Standards of Beauty Post by: Grand Master Planet Eater on October 29, 2011, 07:57:59 pm I think they consider the Umgah to be good-looking

I'm not quite sure how you read my post, but you seem to have walked away with the exact opposite of what I was saying. I was saying they were acting more offended than they really were, due to their pride. They also raided the Syreen's migration column continuously, even though most of their fleet consisted of apartment complexes with thrusters stapled to them. Which, come to think of it, is pretty much a Syreen Penetrator, hmm. At any rate, the VUX dislike humanoids, probably for the reasons said -- two eyes, our teeth, smooth haired skin, and flappy neck and mouthparts. That general description would of course include the Androsynth and Syreen, and to a lesser degree Arilou.I didn't get the impression the VUX were from Bizarro universe. They're simply snobs who are bigoted against humanoids. This doesn't mean they necessarily like bathing in sulfuric acid and eating broken glass, just that we're pretty gross to them. |
