Title: Mixing mods and addons Post by: Roaky on January 25, 2012, 04:40:22 am I found star control 2 on a download bot in an IRC channel around 2001. Loved the game, but had lots of bugs and crashes on my system at the time. Found UQM a few years later, and was thrilled to get to play the game again, this time without the crashes. Last time I played was 2005, so I figured I'd give the newer version a try, and was ecstatic to discover some user created mods.
After a few hours of reading around the forums I decided on a few added components to try for my new game start: the Mycon dialogue fix, the remixed music, the 3do videos (this alone should add some new spice to the game for me), and the time dilation mod (so I have plenty of time to visit all the planets and races before the game starts to end [barely made it first time through]). Am I missing anything that I should absolutely throw in? Do any of these mods conflict with each other? Do these addons load themselves? Most of their instructions just say throw in addon folder, but one mentioned adding text to the shortcut to direct the game to the addon. Note that I did adjust the settings in game for the music remixes and videos, I'm just concerned about the rest. I really wanted to try UQM Extended but as it apperantly can't load addons (please correct me if I'm wrong in this, forum search turned up nothing) I will have to save it for another play through. Anyways anything else I should know after these years out of the loop would be appreciated. Thanks Title: Re: Mixing mods and addons Post by: onpon4 on January 25, 2012, 07:22:32 am the 3do videos Note that you'll need to actually have the video files. Honestly, I think the videos are lame (they mostly just do the same thing as the slides, but have some unimpressive 3D models and voice-overs). But maybe you think differently. It's a command line argument that tells the game to load an addon pack (to replace certain content in the game or add new content). It's pretty easy to do; if you're on Windows, it goes in the "target" text box, and on Linux, you'd be adding it to the command specified in the launcher. I'll keep them enabled though since I have already seen the slides.
Good to know about the shortcut info. I adjusted it for the mod that needed it, but wanted to make sure that the other addons did not need similar adjustments. It's not necessary for the remix pack on 0.7.0... no idea about the balance mod. At least, the remix pack worked for me with just throwing it in the addons folder.Title: Re: Mixing mods and addons Post by: onpon4 on January 30, 2012, 03:30:58 pm That sounds like either the remix pack or the balance mod to me.
