Title: What the .DUK? Post by: dczanik on December 04, 2012, 07:54:14 am Apologies for the crude subject ;) I just couldn't resist. But this IS the place where we talk about Penetrators and BUTT missiles. :P
The 3do videos, are .DUK files. Are they a propiertary format? Any chance I could get somebody to help me out to use something more open like OGG video? I've got my own original videos for the HD project. Title: Re: What the .DUK? Post by: dczanik on December 06, 2012, 10:32:15 pm So, nobody knows how to create .DUK files?
Do we have somebody that can figure out how to play a video file in the game? :) Title: Re: What the .DUK? Post by: meep-eep on December 07, 2012, 12:07:08 am The .DUK files are in a proprietary format created by the Duck corporation, which turned into On2, which was eventually acquired by Google.
They are rather primitive, so I would suggest against trying to create .DUK files yourself. Imho, the way forward would be to add ffmpeg support to UQM to play modern video files. Title: Re: What the .DUK? Post by: dczanik on December 07, 2012, 12:24:33 am Ah, did not know that. Thanks for the information.
Any chance we can get that in UQM? Or, I could get some programmer help to implement it? We can re-make the original 3do intro (as close as possible). Title: Re: What the .DUK? Post by: JHGuitarFreak on December 09, 2012, 06:50:27 pm Could just add in support for .ogv. Do not know how difficult that could be and if I had any real code skill I would do it myself.
I scanned the video code and it seems from just a glance that it only supports the .duk format. Title: Re: What the .DUK? Post by: meep-eep on December 09, 2012, 07:45:30 pm If anyone came up with a patch (of sufficient quality), I would be happy to have this included in the official UQM tree (speaking only for myself, but I doubt the other core team members feel any differently). I do not have the time to implement this myself atm. Maybe after Christmas, but no guarantees.
Title: Re: What the .DUK? Post by: CelticMinstrel on December 13, 2012, 05:52:48 am So, wait, the HD project won't have the still-frames intro of the original/finale but will instead have a movie like the 3DO version? Or does it get both and allow you to pick?
Also, how does this interact with the intro/ending music? Title: Re: What the .DUK? Post by: Anthony on December 13, 2012, 06:26:18 pm Google continues to grow as an international ultra-mega-corporation. :D
I remember a very long ago, there was a website that had higher-resolution images of the SC2 FMVs and they were done with Silicon Graphics PCs. Other than that, it doesn't sound like a widely-adopted format. Supporting a more modern, open format would be better. Of course, that's easier said than done. Title: Re: What the .DUK? Post by: dczanik on December 30, 2012, 09:26:35 am The HD project WILL have still-frames, but (hopefully one day), you'll be able to choose movies instead. The intro and ending will be expanded, because there's stuff you can do in 3D you can't do in 2D. Just don't expect any hollywood blockbuster material. Zenzmurfy is just one guy.
There's no way we can get the movies playable in the game. If you guys don't do it... We'll figure it out, and use something more open. We'll share our stuff with the UQM team. We're also going to make the 3D spins too. |
