Title: I re-recorded missing Mycon dialogue - what do you think? Post by: Soul Reaver on March 16, 2013, 03:52:39 am As some of you may be aware, the current version of The Ur-Quan Masters still has some crucial dialogue missing - among them, dialogue that reveals the true Mycon homeworld is not at Beta Brahe. This has bothered me for a long time.
There have been numerous more or less successful attempts to replace this dialogue, but most usually focus only on one line. Having been unsuccessful at securing help from amateur voice actors, I've decided to give this a shot myself, for all three crucial lines. With the assistance of Trebor from the Audacity forums, I think I've managed to fairly closely re-create the original audio effects used for the Mycon voice. Please listen to the three lines of dialogue below, and let me know if you'd consider these as a decent enough approximation to be included in a mod to re-implement the missing lines: http://www.mediafire.com/?ue7bc3fdczbj5dk http://www.mediafire.com/?2cak5gctp7bpzlp http://www.mediafire.com/?3rbsvfc3cczewrc If the response isn't overwhelmingly negative I'll know I'm not wasting my time pushing ahead with this. I don't particularly want to be downloading files from an unknown source.

Mediafire's safe enough (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaFire), but since you're concerned I've signed up to SoundCloud and uploaded them there too: https://soundcloud.com/soul-reaver-3/mycon-043-full-v4 https://soundcloud.com/soul-reaver-3/mycon-056-full-v1 https://soundcloud.com/soul-reaver-3/mycon-066-full-v1 Title: Re: I re-recorded missing Mycon dialogue - what do you think? Title: Re: I re-recorded missing Mycon dialogue - what do you think? Post by: Soul Reaver on March 19, 2013, 12:18:13 am Alright, sounds like this might actually go somewhere (no ETA though... :P)
I'm also going to work on the Melnorme a bit, which unfortunately seems a lot more difficult. Now if only I had a super-girly voice I could try the Syreen too and fill in all the 'critical' missing bits.... Title: Re: I re-recorded missing Mycon dialogue - what do you think? Title: Re: I re-recorded missing Mycon dialogue - what do you think? Post by: TiLT on March 26, 2013, 10:16:05 pm This is good enough that, unless you're specifically listening for the change, nobody will ever notice that anything is out of the ordinary. Good job! :)

Good job! :) Thanks, this is what I was hoping to achieve. My (admittedly few so far) attempts with the Melnorme have been less successful, but I'll keep working at it... I'm amazed at all the work people put into this game! I tip my hat to you sir. I think doing the Melnorme is ambitious, good luck!

Post by: CelticMinstrel on April 14, 2013, 04:31:45 pm It definitely sounds different than the original Mycon, but ... it definitely sounds like a Mycon. I'm not sure if what TiLT says is true though, since I was specifically listening for the change...
Title: Re: I re-recorded missing Mycon dialogue - what do you think? Post by: onpon4 on April 14, 2013, 05:39:19 pm I noticed about the same amount of difference that I hear between the initial Chmmr voice and the Chmmr voice starting with "You are fully prepared for the undertaking", or the difference between the normal Probe voice and the Probe voice added for the coordinates in 0.7.0.

Great job, Soul Reaver! ;D IMO the voice and the sound effect are as close to the original as can be. We've just added your recordings into UQM-HD with Damon, and they're gonna be in the game in the upcoming Beta release! PM me if you wanna be in the credit roll with your real name. Otherwise I'll just credit you as Soul Reaver? Title: Re: I re-recorded missing Mycon dialogue - what do you think? Let me know, I have a little better software for this sort of thing then audacity, (Not that it's bad; certainly can't beat the price ;)) but Metasynth 5 is great for crafting audio.
