Title: Groombridge Log part II finished Post by: Tiberian on April 11, 2013, 08:37:17 am Some might remember the first part of the Groombridge Log novel, which was finished in autumn I think.
(Here is the link to part I.) http://koti.mbnet.fi/tibe9mm/Groombridge_Log_Part_I.pdf (http://koti.mbnet.fi/tibe9mm/Groombridge_Log_Part_I.pdf) After long hours of work and tears (of joy, of course) I have finished part II of the story. It was supposed to be another five chapters, but after the fifth (tenth) I had to do one more, so it is six chapters. Here's the link: http://koti.mbnet.fi/tibe9mm/Groombridge_Log_Part_II.pdf (http://koti.mbnet.fi/tibe9mm/Groombridge_Log_Part_II.pdf) I hope (some of) you read it. I hope (most of) you enjoy it. All feedback is very welcome. And a big thanks to oldlaptop for proof-reading the story. I like the introduction of the ansible, though for some reason I expected its explanation to involve quantum entanglement rather than micro-wormholes. I have no idea why I'd expect that.
Title: Re: Groombridge Log part II finished Post by: Death 999 on April 13, 2013, 05:04:30 pm Micro-wormholes is closer to LeGuin's original totally incorrect vision, but quantum entanglement is closer to Ender's Game's ridiculous philotes. And micro wormholes are actually not something we can solidly rule out in real physics. There are good theoretical reasons to think they won't work, but there is easily enough we don't know about black holes to drive an ansible system through.
Alternate text: Silly CelticMinstrel, everyone knows that quantum entanglement being used for communication violates the no-signalling theorem! |
