Title: Hi everyone!
Post by: Fantasyjunkie on August 25, 2013, 05:14:08 am
Hi everyone!

I'm a 46 year old gamer that now has time on his hands because the kids are all grown up!   ;D

Anyways, I'm totally lost. All I have figured out how to do is make my ship go forward and left and right, haven't figured out how to stop it lol!

Is there a game guide somewhere online? I'm not looking for cheats or a walkthrough, just something to teach me how to play.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!  :)

Glad you found the game!

To stop moving, you've got to face backward and thrust until your speed is reduced to zero.

To begin with, explore the solar system.  Don't be afraid to save often.

For some basic getting started info, check out the spoiler-free pages on http://wiki.uqm.stack.nl/Main_Page (http://wiki.uqm.stack.nl/Main_Page).

Thanks for answering! I would have never figured out just turning around and hitting the gas! 2nd question, how do I get fuel for my ship? I've already talked to the station commander and now I'm collecting materials from the solar system like he said.

When you dock at the starbase, go to the "Outfit Starship" screen.  You can buy fuel there.  Be aware that fuel is quite expensive, so be careful not to squander it.  The two quickest ways to burn fuel are flying long distances through hyperspace, and making lots of landings on high-gravity (>1.0g)  planets.

It may also be useful to note that when you remove a ship component, you are refunded the full original purchase price; the only resource costs that aren't recovered are destroyed ships/landers, lost crew, and burned fuel.  Consequently, you can freely reconfigure your starship at the start of each excursion to customize it for the type of mission (exploration/mining/combat/etc).

ALSO, you can add thrusters and turning modules to your ship. When in the Outfit Ship screen, press up or down to flip between normal modules and the maneuvering modules.

They should really be added to the regular flip-through list somehow... maybe a spot at the rear, inside the glowy bulb thing?

Well? Did you find out all the UrQuan are really caterpillars from the year 1985, who drove a Delorian 88mph into Spock!?

Also, there is something I can tell you which will give you a lot of money in the first part of the game and save you a lot of time. In Alpha Centauri, there are two Ruby Worlds (VIII and III), and due to the temperature, you'll get a huge amount of Exotic minerals. Just make frequent trips to prevent your lander from being incinerated.

...I wouldn't recommend landing on hot worlds (except maybe Mercury) without a fire shield on your lander. It might technically be worth the lost crew if it's high in exotics, but I still wouldn't recommend it. I don't really like losing crew, I guess. (And crew is sort of a limited resource as well. Sort of.)

Oh, go ahead and spoil his fresh experience, why don't you.
