Title: Pkunk not dead?
Post by: adgo on March 04, 2003, 02:59:28 am
Well... err... there was this hyperwave transmission the commander told me about. Bud I did not realize that the moving Pkunks were the cause.
Later in the game I realized this, but the Pkunks are no more.
Probably killed by the Yehat.

Since I have no savegame left where the Pkunks still exist
my question is, will I run into a dead end or can I still complete the game?

Bye my friends

That's supposed to happen. Don't worry about it.

I'm not sure whether it's supposed to happen that the Pkunk get extinguished.

Question is: Have you started the Yehat civil war before that happened?

If you did, all should be fine.
If you haven't, I don't know whether you'll still be able to solve the game?

The game can still be completed, but you won't have the support of the Yehat or Pkunk.

No Pkunk Furies against the Sa-Matra? Uh-oh! That's bad news...

Not if you still have the ones they give you when you first visit their homeworld...

Greatfully the Yehat civil war has begun.

But oh dear, I send the Thraddash into Kohr-Ah space...

Oh, another question.
The VUX are speaking in an english accent.
But what accent do the Yehat use? Please tell me!

As for the Yehat - they speak with a Scottish accent.

If you send the Thraddash into Ur-Quan space, have you tried to make the Ilwrath attack the Thraddash?

Not that you would need too, since the Pkunk are already someplace else, but I'd be interested if they would go.

Well, the few Furies I received when first meeting the Pkunk... I needed R.U.s veeery badly and scrapped those ships.

Yeah, the Ilwrath extinguished the Thraddash with theire twice as big fleet.

Incorrect.

The Pkunk are absorbed by the Yehat when they move into their space at a certain point in time.  You can prevent this migration twice during the course of he game by lying to the Pkunk, but no more than that.  It's not preventable.

However, as long as you start the Yehat civil war at some point during the game, and recruit the rebels' aid in your quest, they will come to help you when you fight the Sa-Matra.  They tell you that the Pkunk survived the assimiliation, so don't worry.  They're not extinct, dead or missing in any form.  You'll get Pkunk Furies and Yehat Terminators right before the final battle, as they tell you the rebels win their civil war.

So no, the Pkunk aren't gone for good, and you can use their ships against the Sa-Matra when they come to help you for the last battle.

I noticed that when I played and won, I had started the civil war, but I didn't get any Pkunk or Yehat showing up - perhaps it was because I had prevented the Pkunk from being assimilated, or alternately because I had a full fleet??

Phew, Death_999 - your last comment beats me. I don't know what happened there. Anybody else?

If you have a full fleet just be facing off with the Sa-Matra (actually, it's right after you finish off the 6 or 8 Ur-Quan before the Sa-Matra battle) you will not get the cutscene with the Yehat telling you that the Pkunk survived the assimilation. This always seemed like a bug to me, but it was like that on the original PC version.

As annoying as the Pkunk are in SC3, I wish the Yehat would of just killed them :)

I was so sad when the Pkunk were assimilated by the Yehat in SC2.  I mean, I liked the Yehat and all that, but I always liked the Pkunk better.  They were the first race other than those in the Sol system that I met when originally playing the game, and the first to join the New Alliance, which is why I always think of their unique race when I think of SC2, one of my favourite alien races in the game.

Well, I don't think assimilation is the word - mutual adaptation might be better. After all, the next queen is Pkunk...

As far as i know, the conditions for the Pkunk/Yehat coming to your aid at the end of the game are

1. Start the civil war in Yehat space.
2. Get the rebel faction to agree to ally with the Alliance.
3. Pkunk assimilation.
4. Open fleet slots.

I could be wrong-- this is the first time I've played in years, but I've got a fairly good memory for the game.

Personally, I was glad to see the integration of Pkunk and Yehat. I've always had a soft spot for the Pkunk, because they're just really neat characters, and ressurecting ships is downright awesome. But I also really like the Yehat. Their cultural mores are really kind of neat, and I generally like thier attitudes and so forth. Plus they're one of the Older Races of Badasstitude<tm> in the game, and the Terminator's one sweet ship. Add to that the overall neatness (in my opinion) of long-lost sister races that just happen to be some of my favorites re-discovering their anceint ties and going back to the times when they were more or less one race, is just terribly cool. I find myself happy for the both, rather than sad to 'see the Pkunk go'. Anyway, could you imagine a Terminator with the resurrection ability? Aiee. Me wants.  ;)
