Title: I had imagined a different ending... Post by: OHHDEAR on March 16, 2003, 11:00:13 pm While I, in fact, knew how the Slylandro probe arc turned out, I had imagined a completely different final confrontation. Somehow gaining control of the probes, I envisioned the Precursor ship with an army of probes as far as the eye can see, all doing their "We come in peace" song, staring down the Ur-Quan armadas, preparing for some serious violence.
Bah, a guy can dream, can't he? Title: Re: I had imagined a different ending... Post by: pxd on March 16, 2003, 11:05:38 pm I'd be happy if I could get the probes I meet to join me after talking with the owners.
Title: Re: I had imagined a different ending... Post by: Shiver on March 17, 2003, 01:37:28 am Heh, that would make a good secret ending. Instead of doing the Dnyarri, Utwig Bomb, Sun Device and Shofixti Ressurection quests, there could be a hidden plot line which ends with modifying the Slylandro Probe code so that they do whatever YOU tell them to do. The problem with this is that the Ur-Quan and Kohr-Ah would be able activate the Sa-Matra and incinerate all of them.
Title: Re: I had imagined a different ending... Post by: Death 999 on March 17, 2003, 07:15:34 pm Well, how good is the Slylandro at taking out Kohr-Ah?
Could be that they bust out the Sa-Matra, you distract them with the Talking Pet, and attack it at close range, where its defensive capabilities are weaker - probably a different Sa-Matra showdown battle, but potentially an interesting one. Title: Re: I had imagined a different ending... Post by: Mormont on March 17, 2003, 10:01:21 pm Yeah...remember the Sa-matra you fought was only using its defensive measures. The Sa-matra's full potential is much greater.
Title: Re: I had imagined a different ending... Post by: Omni-Sama on March 18, 2003, 12:58:08 am I could see the Slylandro Probes dancing through space and confusing the Kohr-Ah ships. They would try to follow the Probes, but then run into their own blades and ships, killing eachother in a bloody, carnal explosion. That's the kind of ending I wanna see! There would be lots of black and green caterpillar tentacles floating through space...

The Sa-matra's full potential is much greater. It may be a giant piece of artillery - with a shoot straight forward gun and a turning rate of 1 rev per minute... and 50 damage a shot with a range of a light year, and an AU blast radius. For close fighting it could have measures which can be taken out by a concerted attack (since it would normally rely on support vessels) Title: Re: I had imagined a different ending... Post by: Lukipela on March 24, 2003, 12:46:28 am We don't actually know if the Sa-Matra only had a long rage weapon, do we? Nor how fast a firerate it had. I think it'd make sense to have at least some point defense systems on the platform, after all, it managed to stand against the Kohr-Ah, and surely a few of them got close as well...
Title: Re: I had imagined a different ending... Post by: RockasaurusRex2000 on March 24, 2003, 04:06:40 am I think a cool ending would be the extreme overpopulation of the Shofixti. Then like the noble soldiers they are, they would all gather in front of the matra and release all of their glory devices at once. Ahh...what a beautiful sight,
Title: Re: I had imagined a different ending... Post by: Omni-Sama on March 24, 2003, 06:04:19 am I think that would be an awful ending, mainly because I would be sad for all the poor Shofixti... especially considering how close their species came to extinction the first time. Do we want another huge explosion that would send little Shofixti bits flying into outer space? I think not.
Title: Re: I had imagined a different ending... Post by: RockasaurusRex2000 on March 24, 2003, 03:21:33 pm Nah, it's not all the Shofixti, just the Shofixti soldiers. It would be like the final novae and the sa-matra would be dead. Just another huge display of Shofixti courage.
Title: Re: I had imagined a different ending... Post by: Death 999 on March 24, 2003, 09:59:23 pm Well, given that we ended up doing it without a billion shofixti glory devices (well, at least, I did it without a billion shofixti glory devices), it would be more than a bit of a waste.
Title: Re: I had imagined a different ending... Post by: RockasaurusRex2000 on March 29, 2003, 06:14:57 am Ahh fine whatever, man i can hardly have a valid dream anymore without someone shooting it down. :-/

Title: Re: I had imagined a different ending... Post by: Lukipela on March 31, 2003, 02:08:16 am Yeah, crushing other peoples dreams can be great fun :) An advantage to using a billion Shofixti (and preferably not just soliders, but all shofixti in existence) would be that they no longer have the potential of overrunning the known universe like the pestilence they are. (See "The Shofixti Threat" thread ;D
Title: Re: I had imagined a different ending... Post by: Omni-Sama on March 31, 2003, 05:47:28 am Quote Thats what a discussion forum is for. ;) Hehe. We're not crushing your dreams... we're just calling them stupid. I'm kidding by the way, that's what I'm good at. What I'm not good at is agreeing with people, or even accepting that what they tell is the truth. Critical analysis is a careful game, my friend. ;D And if I saw all those cute, cuddly Shofixti being blown to bits, I'd be scarred for life... Title: Re: I had imagined a different ending... Post by: Kohr-Ah_Primat on April 16, 2003, 10:07:39 am Personally, I never expected to find friendlies at the end of that story arc. I had figured some race had originally been peaceable to everyone in the galaxy, and then had had its dreams of peace shattered by some nasty run-ins with other races, and had decided to broadcast a 'reprogram' to all of its exploratory probes to wipe out all of the 'jerk alien races' out there. Kinda like what happened to the Ur-Quan, I suppose.
When I met the Slyandro though, I had been hoping to find a way to take some with us, in a gas-containment capsule onboard the Precursor Vessel. Perhaps in exchange for giving them the means to leave their planet and exploring known space, they would help out in some creative way in the war. (perhaps mediate the war between the VUX and the Humans). |
