Title: 0.3a   when?
Post by: Corsus on March 29, 2003, 12:32:50 am
I tired of 0.2 version
so update the game to0.3 as fast as possible!

Well, we've got 100 open bugs (http://uqm.stack.nl/cgi-bin/bugs/buglist.cgi?bug_status=NEW&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=REOPENED) that need fixing as of yet, and those are only the ones we know about; there's probably lots of bugs as yet undiscovered.

If you can be of any assistance in closing them, then shut your cakehole and get to work writing some code.  If you cannot be of assistance in closing them, then shut your cakehole and wait until we're done.

Was that too rude?  ::)

I don't think it was too rude at all... I mean, you didn't even curse at him/her...

BTW: Is there supposed to be a Vux captain named "Orz"?

That has absolutely nothing to do with this topic. And yes, there are a few instances of alien captains with names resembling other species.

Isn't this a touchy topic. Still, I have to agree with Nic, It's very easy to sit around and demand things, but it's not evry helpful.

Hypocracy is easy.  Doing something to change it is a bit tougher.   ;D

Yup. And there's a Spathi captain named Pkunky. Ol' Fred and Paul probably just were too lazy to come up with new names... weren't some of the other SC2 races in SC1's professor guy copy protection thing, too?

Oh yeah, and don't complain about .3 not being here. That is just *frumple*.

Yea, it doesn't relate to any race, but there's an Androsynth named AK-47.

Androsynth captain name list:

BOOJI-1
DORN-3
BIM-XT
JOR-15
976-KILL (from some horror movie?? Assassin hotline?)
KORB-7B
XR4-TI
CRC-16
BHS-79
DOS-1.0 (obvious)
ME-262
AK-47 (a popular rifle among insurgents. Kind of inaccurate. High rate of fire.)
1040-EZ (the simplest US income tax form)
NECRO-99 (<-???)
HAL-2001 (HAL is the computer in 2001: a space odyssey)
SR-71 (the designation for the experimental blackbird spy plane when it was experimental. Made of titanium, entirely black, massively supersonic)

I do not recognize all of these as jokes, but I suspect that they are.

BIM-XT
CRC-16
ME-262

Smarty pants mode engaged:

BIM-XT = an anagram for a massively powerful 4.77 MHz supercomputer built in the early 1980s  ;)

CRC-16 = this is the name of a type of checksum (a means of verifying data integrity) known as a Cyclic Redundancy Check.  The "16" means it uses 16 bits to store the sum, as opposed to 8 or 32 or whatever (more bits = lower margin of error).  Some source code for generating 16-bit CRCs can be found here (http://ams.cern.ch/AMS/Dataformats/node26.html).

ME-262 = The Messerschmitt ME-262 was the first jet fighter to be used in actual combat; it was used by the Luftwaffe near the end of the second world war.  Since it was introduced so late in the war and in such small numbers, it had a neglible impact on the course of events, but it was an absolutely amazing technical achievement for its time.

DORN 3-I think it's a German comic book?
BHS-79- Probably either Paul or Fred's high school initials and the year they graduated?
XR4-TI-A car made by Merkur in 1989?
NECRO-99-who knows?? Diablo 2 Maybe, or Warhammer?

Necromancers were around a long time before Diablo 2. Which is when SC2 was released.
;)

The damnable names at first made me think they were a race of hostile alien cyborgs, not human clones.

Which made them a whole lot more terrifying, though that might have something to do with the Terminator movies.

And a lot more grateful to the Orz for eating them all up, I might add.
