Title: Manjaro + Cinnamon = Best Linux ever
Post by: Zanthius on March 15, 2018, 11:58:44 am
Linux Mint became very popular some years ago, because of its highly functional and aesthetically pleasing desktop environment. But Linux Mint is based upon Ubuntu, which again is based upon Debian, which comes with new releases every second year. So Linux Mint is usually horribly outdated.

Now, you can however get the nice Cinnamon desktop environment with Manjaro (Arch) linux, which is always updated with the newest Linux kernel and so on.

BTW. Cinnamon comes with tons of different themes (https://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/themes/), so you can make it look more or less like windows and mac:

More and more games are also becoming available for Linux in steam now. So this seems like a great time for people to change into Linux.

Neat. I'll give this a shot to see if I can make an Arch package for the MegaMod.

That would be great! Can you make it so that everything is in the same package? HD, music, speech, and so on.

I guess I could, but I've been trying to aim for portability by having everything optional.

I just wish Linux had Windows-styled wizard installs because even with package managers I'd have to make every single bit of content its own release to make the option viable without having to run a file manager as root to copy the content over.

I'll see what I can do.

Can't you just make it like this?

When I try to install texlive-most, I get options of what I want to install. The default is all.

Does it work like that through the GUI package manager as well?

Because I definitely can do that after figuring it out.

When I search for texlive-most in the GUI, I get all the options I could choose from in the command line:

There is actually something called "Groups" in the package manager, and texlive-most is listed there.

Oh, see, that's what I mean by having the optional .uqm files as they're own packages.

It looks like none of it is in one, self-contained, installation file like I can do with Windows. Or even OS X.

Just put all of them in separate packages, and make a group where you put all the packages together. That will make it very easy to install on Linux.
