Spathi. I like being chased and firing B.U.T.T.s

The Melnorme Trader. After a zillion bouts of net melee, it feels like the ship with the most depth. Fights when playing as (or against) Melnorme are almost always varied and interesting.

AI Trader ships aren't very much fun to fight, on the other hand. The bot has crackerjack aim but it's easy to fake out, and it maneuvers foolishly. Consequently, most people reading this won't be able to relate to my appreciation of this ship.

Depends strongly on opponent..

Against the CPU, in melee, I often take the Blade (not vs. the Marauder).

In-game, it's nearly always the BumpingTool/Vindicator/Mothership.
It gets overpowered early with my style of mining the northern Ilwrath systems first (and using Fwiffo for blowing up the Avengers), then one visit to the Melnorme, and 'lo, the ship has its Shiva furnaces and Hellbore canons.
No more need for anything else. Until I need to fight the "Great Trophy".

I really like the pace of the Cruiser.

Not the strongest ship, of course, but I like flying it.

Agreed. It's ship that's fun to fly and has a chance to win in any fight.

I feel the same. It is very tactical. You have time and distance enough to think and plan just a bit. And with its limitations you really have to.

I had to go with the Spathi Eluder just because of how effective it is for me against AI-controlled Ur-Quan and Kohr-Ah. I remember once taking out 80+ trying to escape from Ur-Quan space in one early game. I had just visited the Zot-Fot-Pik and was headed back to Sol but was too slow to escape the Ur-Quan in hyperspace, I fought them all with just Fwiffo, and an occasional crew resupply.

The Orz is also a favorite but I'm not very good at it.

Looks like I missed my chance to vote. I wouldn't be able to think of an instant answer, looking at the list though, I remember having a lot of fun with the Thraddash Torch. I like it because it's most effective when it combines the elusiveness of the Eluder and the fiery destructiveness of the Avenger.
