Title: Awsome Re-mixs
Post by: Ceo on April 17, 2003, 08:22:20 pm
I've just been listening the great Hyperspace Remix by Mark {Good job!}, and noticed that someone mentioned there are other remix's.

I scanned about 8 pages deep but couldnt find anything.

Anyone have the links handy? Anyone done a remix for Quasispace? That has to be one of the best tunes in the game :)

Excellent, thankyou.

I've been downloading all the original 3DO songs in the meantime while scanning more of the board and google :)

http://www.classicgaming.com/starcontrol/3do/music.shtml

....

Crap, thats were the Remix's are... In my defence, I followed that link straight from Google, hadnt actually searched the site itself and therefore didnt see the remix section.   ::)

NOTE: this is as much for everyone else as it is for Ceo!

The link in Ceo's post is to the 3DO music as it was in the 3DO version of the game.

The link in my post is to various remixes (including many not related to this project) of SC tunes on the PNF.

Thanks.

About the quasispace, it's funny many people like it. It is good, but I don't think it is the best :) Anyhow, I'm working on a remix of it (almost ready) but when it'll be heard.. we'll see :)

Meanwhile listen my experiment.. Can you tell me what I said?  ;D  ;D

Ceo, I think your icon is probably the cutest damned thing I've ever seen. Just figured I should tell ya.

Personally, I like Scott's spiderman the best.

Heck while we're on the brief topic of icons, I have to wonder why Luki's is an Androsynth Guardian. I mean, I can understand an Androsynth, but the ship itself?

Oh and Shiver, the Orz icon you have. How come he looks so...evil? Alright, I know he's *dancing* but he looks like he doesn't so much have a beak as he is just...angry. Angry with a frowning mouth. Maybe it's one of those things you have to look at sideways to get, kinda like those optical magic puzzles?

A dancing banana would make any girl happy.

By the way, I would pay money to see KohrAh_Primat slap Censored.  It would bring me great pleasure if you would...  Note: I am often satisfied by the simplest of things.   ;D  On the topic of icons, mine happens to be the lovable Fot... or Pik.  Or whatever people think that damned quiet one in the back is.  It's kind of funny that I'm the Fot, because he never talks, yet I never shut up.  We share similar goals of galactic domination and the enslavement of all other races in the universe, however, which is why we're so alike.

Speaking of chatting a lot, congrats on making *smell* controller.

Yeah, I've shown the dancing banana to several of my girl friends and they all have found it to be the cutest thing.

Thank you.  I'd like to think I've made a constructive contribution to the development and growth of these forums, but I can't.  I don't know how I've posted more than 250 times.  I guess they must have been 250 posts full of spam.  Considering you're already at 242 posts, K-P, and I've been here far longer than you, you'll pass me in no time.  You must really love posting... lol.   ;)

To be fair, for the most part you seem to have something insightful to say about a lot of topics.

Yeah, I think I'm going to make *smell* controller tonight. -laughs-

But in keeping with the tradition of trying to add to the thread's discussion with each post I make in addition to the fluff... here goes:

I'm not really keen on the Shofixti remix for some reason. I think the drums in the background (at least the PC version) were meant to connotate the whole Shofixti panel instrument radar thingamajiger. The remix makes it kind of sound contrived in my opinion. I know I'm probably in the minority opinion, but I'd thought perhaps if the track had been given a more...medieval Japanese flair to it, it would've probably felt more fitting. That and the... god, what do you call it again? In those erm... Japanese songs, they sometimes have this Japanese guy in the distant background going 'eyooooo' before you hear a couple drumbeats... I figure that might be a good note to end the song on.

Oye, then again what do I know about composing :P

I certainly haven't shyed away from sharing my opinion about the Shofixti remix before.  I certainly think it has promise, I'm just not satisfied it's a copmplete remix yet.  I think that things still need to be worked out and polished for it to be a usable piece in the real game.  I certainly wouldn't use it in the game, because it doesn't sound Japanese to me.  I may not think the original song for the Shofixti was perfect, but I think alot of the good things about the song have been ruined by the remix.

Don't ask me why, but the new Thraddash, Ur-Quan and Hyperspace remixes are the most promising I've seen so far.  While I know alot of people do not agree, I certainly put my support behind the whole remix team, and hope that the new remixes that are being made get their feet off the ground.  I already use the Thraddash remix (by VileRancour) in the game, and I will use Joost's Ur-Quan remix for sure if and when it is finished.  Well, those are my two cents, however worthless they may be.   :P

*laughs* The Ilwrath remix, while it also has promise, also makes me think what I've overheard-- that it sounds too cheery and perky in certain parts of the track, reminiscent of shiny sunny cheerful *flower*y race.

But it's not as bad as I think I've overheard it discussed as. I mean there are some parts that are kinda creepy, like them creepy Dill-Rat spiders..

Just don't expect exact replicas of the original tunes from the remix project. I've remixed two of the songs (plus victory ditties) so far for this project, and none of them have more than a passing resemblance to the originals.

Admit it, not all of the original tunes were works of art. :)

Perhaps it would be nice if someone would set up a page to ALL SC remixes around.

Any volunteers? *ducks away*

I think this page has most of them anyway,

http://www.classicgaming.com/starcontrol/files/remixes.shtml

Tried to search from web once and those were what I found.. Well, of course there are those new remixes for UQM, but those will be released later ;)

It seems that the general concensus seems to be that a remix should sound modern while keeping more or less true to the mood of the original tune - in that case, I think many of you are going to like what I did for the team.  Will be revealed in due time when they choose to, of course.  ;D

Personaly I am big fan of the Saibuster Hyperspace remix. I turned that up very loud and shared it with the neighborhood.  ;D  Since someone brought up the whole *smell* controller, I'll ask... What do various titles mean anyway?  And can I get Marsupial Matchmaker?  Don't forget to enjoy the *sauce*!

If it's half as good as your Thraddash remix, I can't wait.  I still love that guitar wailing in the background.  Sends chills down my spine.   ;D  I could just imagine a Thraddash smoking a cigar and jamming with his guitar.  Hehe.

I've been composing the past few days for some music for the UQM as well, three tracks ready so far. :) But a lot of work still to go..

Any word on when the next pre-release track is due?

I know I ask this a lot, but it's only because I appreciate the work so much.

Only Riku knows :) Personally I'd like to release some of my songs as pre-releases, but it's up to Riku if, what and when :)

Now I go and finish some more songs.. ;)

Thanks for being so patient -> the remixing project is going on really well now, so there will be something out in near future, follow the news section!

- Riku  8)

ps. don't worry for "Ilwrath" preview for being too nice - it's already a bit different now. Thanks for your comments.

I actually liked RUSH AX's hyperspace remix the most, it has that synthpop/gothic groove.
And his Qspace tune is awesome tune... hell, some of the music on that remix page is good enough to be released on it's own.
I even enjoyed the Ilwrath remix, when enough tracks are out I think I'm going to make me a CD of these.

By the way, Riku, since you're reading this forum, I just thought I'd tell you...the Yehat music is some of the best game music I've ever heard.  Anywhere.  Period.  Especially considering that it was in four-track MOD format.  It's amazing stuff!  I really hope the remix keeps to the spirit and general "feel" of that track...great stuff.

I also liked the Mycon music muchly.  Used to listen to that while coding.  Wait, what is this "used to"?  I listened to that while coding yesterday.   ;D
