Title: New Mmrnmhrm theme extrapolated from their ditty (Now with 100% more Chenjesu!)
Post by: JHGuitarFreak on July 04, 2019, 04:54:56 am
I had a lot of fun making this and I hope you guys have a lot of fun listening to it.

Here's the BonePit link where you can "stream" it: http://megamod.serosis.net/Mmrnmhrm

320kbps  MP3: http://megamod.serosis.net/Audio/Mmrnmhrm.mp3
500kbps OGG: http://files.serosis.net/Music/mmrnmhrm.ogg

Update: Now with 100% more Chenjesu!

I actually went through two completely different iterations for this theme.
The first one I made is quite a bit more active and sounds like a partner track to my Mmrnmhrm theme. But it doesn't really convey "Chenjesu".
So I started from scratch and came up with this more subdued track.

Later down the line I'll release the first iteration as a Chmmr remix, remake, alternate take, what have ya.

For the artwork, I lifted it from HD-mod's captain files which were drawn by Kwayne. I then poked them a bit with Photoshop to match the quality of the other background files.

Sounds like Doom music to me. :)

Once I started putting in the staccato bits I ran with that idea as it kinda reminded me of the level stat screen from Doom.

I'm also attempting a Chenjesu theme but not extrapolated from their ditty. That thing is a cacophonous mess.

Sounds good to me.

The intro part could've run a tad longer.

Never played doom much, so can't say I remember the doom music....

Pity my car player doesn't play .ogg files.

There have been a few pretty good Mmrnmhrm themes in the past as well, one by TheMisterCat and one by Neonlare. Here (http://star-control.com/fan/music/TheMisterCat/TheMisterCat%20-%20Star%20Control%202%20Remix%20-%20Mmrnmhrm.mp3) is TheMisterCat's Mmrnmhrm track, hosted on PoNaF. I've lost track of the other one.

I believe I've heard TheMisterCat version but not Neonlare's. Even the Wayback Machine doesn't have that one archived, that's unfortunate.

As for the Chenjesu theme I'm now working on I'm using the Chmmr's melody as a sort of jumping off point, not as obviously as I did the intro of the Hrm's theme but it's going to be the partner piece to the Hrm's theme.
If all goes well it should sound at least somewhat logical that the two combined would make out the Chmmr theme.

That Chenjesu theme is excellent.

It really feels like a fit for them.  Mysterious and so weighed down by the seriousness of their central role in the conflict, yet balanced against this alien, perhaps super human resolve to see it through.

Wow you are a man of many talents.  Really nice work.  Out of curiosity what is your DAW of choice?

The chenjesu isn't bad, though I feel it's a little bit too simple melodically and repeats the same stuff too much to really impress me.
