Title: Re: Valhalla Post by: Zanthius on August 17, 2019, 10:23:52 pm How does Hinduism strike you? They have a different breakdown. I think one mythology is enough... and I think maybe humanity needs something like a God to say something about morality. Otherwise, I am scared that atheists might become more amoral over time, or at least morally confused. Especially some of the far-left seems morally confused. https://www.archania.org/mythology/ (https://www.archania.org/mythology/) Title: Re: Valhalla Post by: Death 999 on August 20, 2019, 02:13:29 pm Frankly, I do not see a trend of increasing moral confusion among atheists. And even if there were… the most moral confusion has arisen from stopping asking questions and putting abstractions ahead of just doing good things, which seems rather more like the kinds of things that creating a god would encourage rather than halt.
Title: Re: Valhalla Post by: Zanthius on August 20, 2019, 07:16:33 pm But are you sure humans always know what is the "right" or "good" thing to do? Why are most Russians so supportive of Putin? Why are most Chinese people supportive of their new social credit system? Are you sure we aren't going to get a similar system here in the future, because people might think it is a righteous system?
Is it righteous to not allow people to do stupid or self-harmful things? If you think the moral goal is to maximize human well-being, you might think it is morally justifiable to not allow people to do stupid and self-harmful things, and then the Chinese social credit system might seem like a brilliant idea. The moral confusion is about the removal of human volition in an attempt to maximize well-being. Therefore I thought it would be a good idea to invent a God that forbids people from restricting the volition of other people. People must be allowed to be stupid. We learn from our mistakes.
