Title: Movies
Post by: ZeroZero on April 24, 2003, 08:15:52 pm
The pages of now and forever has the intro and ending movies downloadable. Is the game set up so if we take the time to download them and put them in a certain spot, they will play at the appropriate times?

Hi... I'm rather new around here, but have been into Star Control for quite some time.

About the movies... I was about to suggest the same thing you know.  I'm still a bit curious about the 'slides' folder in the game directory.  I has bits of slides, fonts and texts... and the original music from the DOS version of SC2... but what good is it for?

I was rather disappointed to finish UQM only to show a brief flash of a starfield and quick jump to the end credits and then a dump to the main menu.  Can't something better be done?

Thanks!

You're new, so I'll give the "diplomatic" response:  ;)

Thanks for the feedback!  Your disappointment is understood by everyone here, and possibly even shared, and we welcome any/all suggestions on a better approach.  Unfortunately for everyone, the porting of the game has not been 100% completed yet -- there are still some rough edges, e.g., the lack of an intro and ending to the game.  For more information, please feel free to consult the README that came with your copy of the game.

The slides in the content/ directory are going to be used to build the intro/ending for the game, but at this point the code to implement them is waiting for the new resource system, which is still being written at this time.  Since "life" has caught up with most of the core dev guys (as well as with some of the non-core contributors, like myself) development has slowed a bit in recent weeks, but if you extend a bit of patience, I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the end results, once the game is completely finished.

Thanks again, and if you have any additional suggestions, please don't hesitate to offer them!

I'm impressed Nic... A very civilized response.

I wasn't trying to put pressure on anyone. Everyone  involved has done a fantastic job and I for one am extremly grateful just to play this game again. Which was pretty much why I was asking if anyone knew a do-it-yourself method. Didn't want to be the guy who is whining about the game not being perfect, when clearly everyone is working hard. NOI
