Title: The Ur-Quan Masters ? Post by: ICOM on April 30, 2003, 11:27:19 pm So...is this the new release of SC2 that's ported for the latest OS or is this a completely different game. It sounds like you guys are actually playing one of these games. Did this title get released? Is it only in Beta format? I'm lost! Would someone be kind enough set me straight.
Thanks Title: Re: The Ur-Quan Masters ? Post by: ErekLich on May 01, 2003, 12:01:30 am This project is a direct port of Starcontrol 2 to moderns OSes.
However, for legal reasons it cannot use the name Starcontrol 2; so the developers are calling it "The Ur-Quan Masters." The title is currently released in Beta format only. The version you can download off this site is the latest official release, however periodically people create unofficial builds from the latest working code and offer them to people. I'm not able to follow the process as closely as I'd like so I got behind on the details. An alpha version available for download but I'll wait until it gets into Beta form before I try to play it.
I'm really excited about this game as I've only played SC3. I thought SC3 was a lot of fun. I loved SC3 but folks keep telling me that SC2 is even better. I wonder how far away the Beta is... ;) Title: Re: The Ur-Quan Masters ? Post by: Mark Vera on May 01, 2003, 09:29:25 am Quote Thanks for clearing that up for me. The version 0.2 patched with the Striker's cvs update is already quite playable. The only downsides are the missing intro and ending scenes.. and of course the new remixed music ;D Title: Re: The Ur-Quan Masters ? Post by: Cyamarin on May 02, 2003, 04:52:21 am A shame...SC3 was actually created by a different set of programmers. SC2 was a far superior game, I think--and that's about as nice as you're going to hear it from anyone on this board. ^_^
Title: Re: The Ur-Quan Masters ? Post by: Death 999 on May 02, 2003, 06:49:50 am Except NEMT.
Title: Re: The Ur-Quan Masters ? Post by: Shiver on May 02, 2003, 07:23:05 am NEMT died in a tragic boating accident. Speak no more of this. Besides, if you say his name three times in one post he might reincarnate.
Title: Re: The Ur-Quan Masters ? Post by: Kohr-Ah_Primat on May 02, 2003, 07:09:34 pm I find it incredibly hard to believe NEMT has Pkunk blood...
He seems far too volatile and antisocial for that. Betelgeuse Betelgeuse Betelgeuse? (*ponders as the Syreen come running*) Title: Re: The Ur-Quan Masters ? Post by: Lukipela on May 02, 2003, 08:59:16 pm I wish that trick worked in real life Primat, it would make for some very itneresting situations...
Where does that story come from anyway, theres any numbers of urban legends and such that mention the "say it's name three times, preferably in fornt of a mirror, and lo, it shall appear"? Who makes stuff like that up? Regarding the Pkunk part of you-know-who, maybe he became just a bit too perfect, and wrapped around? Title: Re: The Ur-Quan Masters ? Post by: stylus on May 03, 2003, 02:29:34 am it makes me very sad to see that some people's experience with the star control universe begins and ends with part three.
Title: Re: The Ur-Quan Masters ? Post by: warzog on May 04, 2003, 09:22:02 pm I've played, and loved the PC version of this game since it game out.
One of my all-time favorites! (And at age 51, I've played quite a few!) I was looking through the data files, and it looks like most, if not all of the stuff that was in the PC version is still there. I've played through the .02 version several times, and like how it's comming along. I was wondering if the animated endings will be added back in? They appear to be there, but only a list of names is at the end. Some of the endings were cool! (Like Talana nursing the Captain back to health as the Shield around Earth comes down!) (Or the Yehat who's writing a book, or was it a play?) (And the Drynarri claiming that SC3 was going to be ALL about him!) There was also a long intro that explained how the Captain got the ship. While they don't really affect the gameplay, they were fun to see. Also, if anybody knows... There WERE 2 places to get the Rosy Sphere: 1)Trade the Druuge for one. 2)It was on a planet, somewhere, but I don't have it in my notes, anymore. (If you copy the text of the various characters, it still has it mentioned by the lander's crew.) BTW-I LOVE the new remix's! (Anyway you could make the music selectible?) Title: Re: The Ur-Quan Masters ? Post by: AnonomouSpathi on May 04, 2003, 11:14:21 pm The endings aren't in yet because the 3D0 version had a ending movie instead of the slideshow, and it was in a defunct format and TFB doesn't own the rights to it anyway. The slideshow is being put back in by the dev team, but it's lower on the priority list then getting the core gameplay working. I believe they're estimating it will be in by .3
The rosy sphere can be found on the druuge homeworld, if the kohr-ah annihilate them before you buy it. Take it from their cold, dead hands. That way you can still win the game if you haven't gotten it by the time the kohr-ah start their death march. Selecting music between remix and original is on the to do list, but it's another not quite top priority. And that's what they tell me, apoligies to the dev team if I got any of that wrong. Thanx for the info. "Death March?" I've never heard of THAT before! And I've been playing the game for years. Do you have a Star Date, or the conditions, required to initiate it? Well he's looking to play SC2 now. Better late than never, right? Besides, SC3 has been a lot of people's entrance into Star Control... I played SC3 first ( I wasn't into computer gaming when 2 was out ).. without having high SC2 expectations, I enjoyed it, and tracked down the older games and then proceeded to enjoy 2 even more. |
