Title: Desperate cry for help (not too loud, though) Post by: SubComan on June 04, 2003, 08:17:18 am I know this forum is supposed to be for discussion, but my problem is not really technical, so I'm aiming at your good will and compassion for mankind.
I haven't been able to play any of the SC games in ages, and I finally got my hands on a copy of SC1 and SC2... The problem is I don't have either the pass codes (to start the game) or a working crack. If anyone could tell me where to get them, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks! Title: Re: Desperate cry for help (not too loud, though) Post by: Death 999 on June 04, 2003, 08:46:26 am dude, download UQM and play it instead of a cracked version...
Title: Re: Desperate cry for help (not too loud, though) Post by: SubComan on June 04, 2003, 09:46:07 am I did so. However, the UQM v2.2 was crashing whenever I entered melee. I searched the forum, but I couldn't find a solution, so I decided to wait for v3.0
In the meantime, I'd like to go back to my childhood with the old versions of SC Title: Re: Desperate cry for help (not too loud, though) Post by: AnonomouSpathi on June 04, 2003, 10:00:09 am Hmm...did you try striker's builds, assuming you're on a win machine? Those have been pretty rock solid for the last couple of releases, in my experience.
As for cracks...well, out of curiosity, are you using an ancient pc to play them? If not, you will need something to slow down the pc (like moslo) to get any crack to function. I seem to remember that the copy protection was pretty timing heavy on those two, and if the machine is going to fast, it won't work. But seriously, if at all possible, get striker's most recent build. Retro or no, getting it functioning is bound to be less painful then trying to get the originals working on modern hardware. Is this still too fast for old games?

Is this still too fast for old games? The original SC2 works quite well on fast computers. I've run SC2 on a 500 MHz Pentium 3 with only minor sound problems (the Ultrasound support appears to have a few minor bugs, but works mostly, and DOSEmu either breaks the sync or distorts the sound).Title: Re: Desperate cry for help (not too loud, though) Post by: Saboteur on June 04, 2003, 07:49:04 pm One word: DosBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/).
Title: Re: Desperate cry for help (not too loud, though) Post by: guesst on June 05, 2003, 01:53:33 am okay, missing the point.
You need a starmap to play SC2 which can be found on PNF. I don't know where a crack for SC1 or 2 can be found as I have had cracked versions since I don't know when. (Yes I bought the games, but when I lost my starmap and code wheel I was in the same fix.) Maybe someone where can help you. Title: Re: Desperate cry for help (not too loud, though) Post by: nascarfanatic on June 05, 2003, 02:00:59 am If you want to make it REALLY hard and challenging, you can try playing without the starmap (I'm not using it). It just takes a while to find systems you want to go to, but many of the locations in the game are alluded to as coordinates.
I am a glutton for punishment. Title: Re: Desperate cry for help (not too loud, though) Post by: SubComan on June 05, 2003, 03:22:54 am thanks guesst, but what is PNF?
and nascarfan, you are also missing the point. ::) The starmap in SC2 is not to make the game easier, it's actually to ENTER the game. I'd love to make it really hard and challenging, but I'm getting really old and I'm not able to play at all. :-/ Title: Re: Desperate cry for help (not too loud, though) Post by: guesst on June 05, 2003, 03:35:55 am PNF is the Pages of Now and Forever found at http://www.classicgaming.com/starcontrol
PNF has been "the" starcontrol stource since before this new UQM project began. As a fan of starcontrol, this board may become your new home. I know it's been mine for a long time. Don't know why, but I have always needed to check in on PNF every once in a while for years. That's how I found out about UQM's remake. I found the star map. http://www.classicgaming.com/starcontrol/sc2/images/sc2_color_map.jpg It's a bigun for you, but you can print it out and have one. Happy VUX hunting.
