Title: Big Uranus Glitch
Post by: Reggie Larson on July 03, 2003, 04:06:28 pm
I just started the UQM and Im up to the part where the commander says they are are detecting alien signals from Uranus. I got to Uranus but it wont let me scan it in anyway! What do I do?

The signals are coming from the direction of Uranus. Uranus is a gas giant, so it can't be scanned, or landed on. Try looking at other planets nearby...

It deserves mention: The majority of the hints to the in-game puzzles are presented in this fashion; i.e., the game prefers to "point you in the right direction" rather than "lead you around by the nose".  The sooner you get used to thinking about the puzzles in this way, the more effective you'll be.

Have fun!

What happens? Game locks up because you hit too many keys.

You could have at least left SOME work for the player to do themselves.

I believe you get much more satisfaction from a game when you have to put in the work to get there.
Thats why walkthroughs suck, you get to the end without having to do any work and hence arent very satisfied.

Actually, that one crew member is Fwiffo himself..
When you're piloting the Vindicator (damnit I hate that name, I always prefer Liberator) the number of crew you have on the main screen is upped by one for space melee combat to factor in you as the captain.

I do, however the name Vindicator is 'default' most people know the ship as. Much as is 'Zelnick'. Kind of like those Video Games where you're given the option to rename your characters, but most people know them as their default name.

Yeah, you know that part of FF6 where Nathan rescues Anne from Ultros, and then Tarant steals her right out from under their noses?
It's almost as incomprehensible as the time when Hans is trying to conceal his identity from Anne and Franz. What's up with that? And what's the special link between Boris, Natasha, and Artmis? There's a relic which protects only those three, and its special text says "Mother's love protects against fatal attacks." Is Artmis really Natasha's father? Surely no one woman is the mother of all three of them...
And Inigo's state of mind... well, let's not go there (unless you want some powerful weapons and espers). Similarly, Lisa's mind is not a fun place to be.
And then there's Goku. What a weird kid... weirder than Natasha, and she's pretty weird.
I never liked Odo, Stan, or Ralph all that much -- the former two speak not at all, and the latter hardly ever. They don't connect into the rest of the characters significantly.

Points for each character you can positively identify!
Points for each character for whom you can figure out where the name came from! (note: I do not have a known source for Anne, Lisa, or Nathan, other than just regular old names)

It is to make this trivial that people use the standard naming conventions even when the names in their game have been altered radically. Hence the 'Avenger', under protest.

finally:
"I am not Red XIII... I am really, " (user enters 'Red XIII') "... Red XIII!"

You are very, very evil... :D

Boris and Natasha=Rocky and Bullwinkle Show!!!!

Inigo=Inigo Montoya from Princess Bride? I actually thought it was Indigo.

Which part grants me that distinction?

Right on all counts (except Inigo being Indigo).

Besides your name?

Probably the sarcasm that spills out of your various appendages... ;D

I'll do this just for fun (haven't been hanging around the forums for quite some time, just dropped in to check some threads)

Nathan = Locke
Anne = Celes
Tarant = Setzer
Hans = Edgar
Franz = Sabin (heheh, Hans and Franz)
Boris = Strago
Artmis = Shadow (Apollo's sister from greek mythology)
Natasha = Relm
Inigo = Cyan
Lisa = Terra
Goku = Gau
Odo, Stan = Gogo, Umaro (Not necessarily in that order)
Ralph = Mog
Only names I ever change in FF3:
Edgar -> Niahak (Favorite character)
Shadow -> Sabre
That was fun.  Thanks for the opportunity :D

That was scary. Not having played any FF games, it was also rather incomprehensible. I'll take your word for ti though.

Nice job!  In addition to getting all of them right, you caught Hans and Franz.

Quote
Tarant = Setzer

In the Coldfire trilogy, there was a character named Gerald Tarrant, whom Setzer looks like.

Quote
Artmis = Shadow (Apollo's sister from greek mythology)

Actually, I was thinking of Artemis Entreri. This should make more sense, if you know who he is (the main nemesis of Drizzt Do'Urden in events falling after the Icewind Dale trilogy)

Quote
Goku = Gau

I am thinking of Goku from Saiyuki
Always hungry, compared to an animal, gets smacked by his teammates and takes it (though he complains).

Quote
Odo, Stan = Gogo, Umaro (Not necessarily in that order)

Actually, that is their order. Gogo is a mimic. I take this to mean shapeshifter, and thus he/she/it becomes Odo from Deep Space 9. Meanwhile, the abominable snowman sketch, in which Stan Freberg plays both sides of an interview with an Abominable Snowman, is a classic of radio comedy, hence the Umaro<->Stan mapping.

Quote
Ralph = Mog

In the webcomic Exploitation Now, a principal character is Ralph, a perverted moogle.

Also, can anyone guess which character I once named 'April'?

Hehe... he said Uranus...  hehe.

Ahem. Wow, the Final Fantasy games are much more fun (IMHO... the only humble opinion, actually) when you use the character's real names.  That way you don't get totally confused with the names other people used when talking about the game on the internet. Hehe, much easier that way. :P
