Fighting a computer-controlled Kohr-Ah is quite easy:  Stay between its firing angles and keep lobbing bubbles at it.  A Marauder has a slightly higher top speed than a Guardian does, so occasionally you'll need to comet away and "start over", but otherwise it's a really easy fight to win.

granted, it's not as easy as that sounds, since the close-range ... secondary fire (i don't know the name =P) gets rid of all the bubbles and then even the blades get in the way for a nice bubble attack.

i suppose you'd have to stay in close enough a range that they drain all their energy with blades, but that's a bit tedious.

not to say i won't try it when i get the will again, though.

after some practice with the androsynth, i got down to this:

and i got too disenchanted to try it again.  i'm sure someone else here can do it.

edit:
strategy:
chmmr:  keep a safe distance using the comet form until it gives up and turns around, then save your energy for bubbles and shoot.  a moderately long battle.
chenjesu:  comet form early and ram, if you can't get it on the first pass, it's hard to do it again.
ur-quan: run and bubble.  when the fighters get close, comet away a short distance and repeat.  when fighters stop, shoot bubbles at a safe distance.
kohr-ah:  the hardest of the bunch, shoot a few bubbles at first to get it to drain its energy, then ram to drain of its health.  you'll have to be close to perfect here.

the hardest one to kill with the androsynth is the chenjesu; i think the strategy with him is to practice the ramming early on.

edit:  check that, kohr-ah is the hardest.

try the androsynth - they're surprisingly good against the ur-quan, but you'll have to practice ramming to get the chmmr and kohr-ah.

don't underestimate the bubbles.

edit:  oh yeah, and try killing stuff with a slylandro.  it takes a lot of practice to get it down.

i've always found the chenjesu incredibly hard to beat using most dudes, since they've got a great long range weapon which quickly turns to a short one, and the energy draining dealy doesn't help much either.

of course, I could just be bad at the game.

edit:  oh yeah, for the record, utwig too.  i could only get them in the normal game by keeping my distance in the precursor and holding down the fire button, waiting for it to accidentally turn off its shield.  except with orz, orz invading dudes did the job pretty well, with a few lost.

again, i could just be bad.

I just discovered this place within the last 2 weeks and it's been one of my most nostalgic experiences ever (as I've said in another post) so yeah, big thanks to all who brought me back my childhood.

...I can't tell whether I'm being BSed or given real info.
8  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / black spathi? on: June 19, 2004, 02:40:57 pm
the melnorme (was it them?) mentioned something about black spathi, painted black rods or something and they're all brave-like.  granted, I haven't explored all the stars and planets, but I just didn't happen to run into them.

I guess I was expecting them to appear in SC3, but they didn't.  So are they hiding somewhere in SC2?
