661  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Researching Star Control Board Game Interest on: October 30, 2004, 12:40:50 pm
I can imagine a translation of melee as a card battle game, like Magic: The Gathering. Still, that would probably be boring compared to the excitment of a melee battle. I think something cooler might be a conquest game, like some people have suggested. This could be based off of SC1-style strategy. Another approach would be to make an adventure game a la SC2, where you build up a flagship and navigate the stars, perhaps with some melee along the way. It woud sort of be like 'careers' set in space.

I enjoy board games, but I'm not sure that I'd want to buy one unless there would be something in the board game that is more interesting than playing Star Control on a computer. If you can come up with a game that has that, I'd probably buy it if it was reasonably priced (under $20.00).

While we're on the topic, what are the Ranks with their corresponding minimum post counts? (Zebranky food, Frungy champion, etc...)

Yeah, I'm huge on old video games. I'm mostly into NES and Genesis. My top four would probably be Ninja Gaiden, Metroid, Super Mario Bros. and Balloon Fight for the Nintendo. On Genesis, my picks are Vectorman, Flashback, Aladdin, Comix Zone, Sonic 2, Another World (Out of This World), and of course, Star Control.
I've had to resort to emulation since both of my consoles are broken.

If you want to talk old old school, I'd say that Yar's Revenge and Pitfall for the Atari 2600 are my favorites. Also Galaga, Gravitar, Spy Hunter, and Tempest are my favorite stand-ups.

In that case, I'll just use this Jet thing instead.

Wow, what a total non-sequitur!  Grin

Cannot anyone send me the special ability - sound effects - to the Chmmr, Mycon, Syreen, and Orz. Please....

Just download and run that program I linked to earlier. You will find those sound effects among the myriad of WAV files it extracts.

Ah, I didn't see that! Thanks!
Ok, GIMPin' time.

That's the direction TimeWarp:Legacies is going in (part of TW-Light). As far as I understand it, they want to create a sequel to UQM that is not a remake of SC3.
I'm currently looking into writing dialogue for that project, so maybe I'll be able to tell you more later on. I think some of the TW-Light developers hang out on these forums. One's bound to pop by sometime.

does it extract the wav files, from the old starcontrol 2 version, or from the new UQM version?

I'm not sure. All I know is I ran it with my current installation of UQM and I wound up with a TON of wav files in my star control folder.
To answer your question, it does work with UQM.
670  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: wav files on: October 22, 2004, 11:41:37 am
I believe there was a program somewhere that would extract them as WAV files. Let me see...
Ah! Here it is. http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/classicgaming/starcontrol/sc2/sc2_wav.exe

Enjoy.

Steve martin? Ugh. Remind me not to go see it.

On a less stomach-wrenching note, what is everyone's favorite Peter Sellers flick? For me it's a tie between The Mouse That Roared and Dr. Strangelove.

I asked before but it got lost in the backlog- do you mind if I use your fine drawing of the beast as my avatar?

When i finished the game, the Korah had already exterminated most of the races :-/. Is it because i was slow? Could they be saved somehow?

That's not neccissarily a bad thing. It makes it a lot easier to obtain certain devices once everyone is dead. The first time I played UQM through, I just barely finished in the time window between the annihilation of all other races and the annihilation of myself. Tough cookies for them.

Bahahahaha! That is so damn cool. Do you mind if I use your fine drawing of the beast as my avatar?
