...I hope StarDock doesn't kill their domain now that they own the naming rights.

Heh, thanks for the concern.  Speaking with Frogboy, that isn't going to happen.  I believe including the community sites and linking to them is one of his desires.

No but, it is now.

Megagun, thank you for letting everyone know.

Yes, when I got home on 8/1, I noticed exploit warnings being flagged by my virus scanner while using my browser.

Then I figured it out it was coming from the browser tab running SCDB.

I'm fairly certain the compromise happened on 8/1 and I was done cleaning it up on 8/1.  I spent several hours analyzing and restoring.

I removed ftp access and changed account password(s).

It looks like something got in and changed index.* and login.* throughout all directories to contain the malicious code.  It seems automated.

I went through every single directory and restored the indexes from backup and then re-downloaded the entire contents of the site and virus scanned it again to make sure the files no longer had any malicious code.

I have no idea how they got in and if anyone has any ideas on how to figure that out, I'd love the help.

Sorry for any trouble, stuff like this just sucks.

The new forum software over there only allows registered users to post.  Feh!

Didn't know, now I do, and I added the ability for non registered users to post along with modifying your own posts.  That new board has MANY more options/permissions than YaBB had, so there is a learning curve to set it all up.

Sorry guys, problems abound.  I've updated the main page with the cause...

I do not know the answer to that question yet.  But I did post a news item a few hours before it went down and its there.

I cannot log in yet to change the permissions on files, etc.

Yesterday (Tuesday) they said

"The dynamic servers will be slowing coming back online today, however access to them is still restricted till further notice."

The dynamic server (CGI, etc) is down.  Supposedly it might be back up by Monday.
10  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Re: Compiling UQM with 3do .duk intro/ending on: October 14, 2004, 02:43:20 am
Is there going to be an instruction bit or faq on this in the future?  I'd like to give this a try also.
11  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: 3DO, PC endings on: October 07, 2004, 04:54:18 am
The files are hosted on a separate part of fileplanet where there is almost never a wait.

The link to the page to download them is

http://www.classicgaming.com/starcontrol/3do/movies.shtml

I'm downloading them fine right now in Internet Explorer.  They are both there.  Fileplanet might have hiccuped for a second, you should try downloading the one you couldn't get to work again.

No sound for the PC Intro?  If someone could convert it into Flash movie with the MOD sound file, that would probably be the "modern" way of doing it.  Otherwise, all that is here is this...
http://www.classicgaming.com/starcontrol/sc2/sc2open.shtml

You can get screenshots of the PC Intro, Ending and Credits on this page at the bottom right...

http://www.classicgaming.com/starcontrol/files/sc2.shtml

I also downloaded all of these files fine.

Personally, I'd tell the people to download UQM (to see the intro) and finish the game (to see the ending, once added Wink )
12  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Evil in SC2 on: July 27, 2004, 12:01:36 am
I cannot offer more than my opinion.  I think evil and good is a human/sentient concept created to satisfy our moral consciences for when we take an action or believe in a cause (aka peace of mind).

Thus, I believe nothing is good or evil, people are just taking sides in things.  i.e. evil and good are all a matter of a certain point of view.

All IMHO.
13  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Does anybody know about this? on: July 26, 2004, 11:53:18 pm
How can something be "sort of like" and "exactly"at the same time?  Tongue

And no, I don't agree that UQM is an update of the SC2 type game to modern day standards.
14  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Do you think the Ur-Quan talk too slowly? on: June 29, 2004, 09:16:48 pm

To my ears, increasing the speed alters the performance in a few ways that are important to the character of the Ur-Quan.  It makes them sound more authoritarian, more "ruthlessly efficient", less patient for disobedience, and when discussing the Doctrinal Conflict, more desperate.

WoW!  I'm really liking the new speed.  Sure, the original is perfectly fine IMHO but, this new does seem to fit and sound better too IMHO.
