1  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: port to the Ouya Game Console possible? on: January 27, 2013, 10:18:12 pm
As far as I understood the Ouya team wants to create an Open Source console that is hackable and will support free software. So I guess it should be possible free of charge with a GNU licence. Smiley
2  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / port to the Ouya Game Console possible? on: January 27, 2013, 03:08:12 pm
Well the Topic says everything... Wink

Do you think it will be possible to port this game to the Ouya console?
Would be nice having some multiplayer action there. But I don't know wheather it will take too much work or not.
3  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Have to stop the Pkunk from entering Yehat space on: October 14, 2010, 07:03:01 pm
Well that was years ago... But I startet the Yehat fight and still the Pkunk get completely destroyed.
4  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Info for German Language Version should be updated on: October 13, 2010, 08:19:56 pm
Ok I now found the passage with the bugs.

Bug #1 (Spathi):
Code:
#(SUBSEQUENT_FRIENDLY_HELLO_SPACE) spath041.ogg
...Nein, Nein! Waffenoffizier, nicht feuern! Es ist wieder der Erdling, Sie Idiot!
Was! Der Sichtschirm? Was meinen sie... oh.
Hallo Freund Erdling! Wie geht's Euch? Uns geht's gut, wirklich klasse.
Überhaupt keine Probleme! Einfach gut.
Result: Text will be shown, but after your answer nothing will happen.

Bug #2 (Yehat):
Code:
#(ROYALIST_SPACE_HELLO_1) yehat031.ogg
Erdling... Sie werden nie das volle Ausmaß des Schadens erkennen, den Sie unserer Kultur angetan haben.
FÃœR VOLLE 2000 JAHRE LEBTEN UNSERE CLANS FRIEDLICH ZUSAMMEN!...(*)
Result: Game will get stuck at the position marked with (*).
I don't see any reason why. The Yehat-file seems to be in UTF-8 by mistake but it did not crash with some other conversations before.
5  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Info for German Language Version should be updated on: October 13, 2010, 07:53:29 pm
Ok, I downloaded the German Addon Package and was easily able to get it to work, but I think Information should be updated, since everthing is confusing:

  • Most Links as well as the FAQ in the Wiki are pointing to the language pack for UQM Version 0.4.0
  • It is hard to find the correct version, but I was able to find it there. This page only mentions UQM 0.5.0, but the langage pack also works with the current version, except:
  • the game will crash if you either meet a spathi fleed (not fwiffo or the homeworld), or if you meed a queen-loyal yeat fleet after showing them a shofixti.

I think it's confusing when there are soo many old things online now. Is still anyone reading this who used to work on that project?
6  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / making this with other games (eg. Wacky Wheels) on: May 19, 2006, 12:55:13 am
I think it's really great that SC2 is available for other OS now, also with the ScummVM you can play a lot of old games without having troubles in Windows or Linux.

But how about making this with other great games? Like Wacky Wheels or Super Kart? I read somewhere that the programmer posted a part of the sourcecode but unfortunately just a small part. Would be really great if you can make games like these for Windows nowadays and with network playing!

What do you think?
7  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Network Gaming on: May 19, 2006, 12:52:00 am
Short response: it is possible to write a good network implementation for Timewarp, and quite possibly for UQM using a Kaillera model, but it'll take a truckload of work.
Kaillera is a good idea but unfortunately a little bit difficult to use. This way I think it's no easy to get servers full or your friends to play with you.

Best solution is if you have a master server, but as far as i tested the network functions for TimeWarp didn't really work. :-(

For Ur-Quan Masters it would be really fine if you could play melee with some others (like TimeWarp) but when you say it's a lot of work then I guess it's difficult.  Cry
8  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / Why was exactly this game ported? on: April 16, 2005, 02:56:45 am
I wonder why exactly this game was ported to Windows32/Linux while I still miss some other great DOS games like Micro Machines etc.

Maybe you can give me a short answer.
Was the game architecture easier to port?
Did you have support of the original game creators?
....or some other reasons?

However, this was a great work I hope this will happen with some other older games too!

See here, the speech files are in the subdirectories, and have the extension .txt.  Instructions on creating add-on packs with your translated files are available elsewhere on this forum.

Ah, great!

So was there any process yet to get the German language files into that or can I get them anywhere?
10  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: UQM music in MP3 format? on: March 14, 2005, 03:03:35 pm

Will the old and remixed tracks be available for download as MP3s at some point?

Why mp3? The are available as MOD in original quality and you can also create a WAV out of the MODs and burn it on CD.

I found some of http://bisqwit.iki.fi/music/mod/sc2/ most sounding very original.

The music in Star Control 2 was originally in a MOD format, so converting the MOD into a WAV directly will give you a better quality than converting it into lossy MP3 and then WAV.

The translation is finished and i wait for UQM with their integration
of the language support. Is it ready, then i build a package for the
german content.

I can't wait any longer... Sad

Yes I did. But you can't find any download there - just a "news" from the last november that everything is finished and only has to be proved. Sad

Most of the work to support translations in UQM has apparently already been done; a German translation is already available, although it hasn't been completely integrated into the main UQM development tree.

Ok, great! Where is the link of the German version?

Maybe it should be integrated into the UQM tree,
14  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Network Gaming on: February 27, 2005, 06:52:23 pm
Would be fine if you could do network gaming with Ur-Quan masters. Like in Timewarp, but with central server so that it is easy for everyone to find opponents.
15  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Ur-Quan Masters in other languages on: February 27, 2005, 06:49:27 pm
How about making Ur-Quan with Language Files so that one can easily translate the text into other languages? Would be fine if you could select the languages for the game as there is many text.

Is anything like that planned?
