My major problem with this is that scientists have "recently" discovered, based on research, that the moon stabilizes Earth, and that without it, the poles would probably reverse fairly often.  By that article's own admission, animals without the ability to regulate their body temperature wouldn't have been able to handle an environment that goes from generic summer temperatures to antarctic weather every 50 years.
2  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / Re: Discuss: Should SC1 be a download for the Wii virtual console? on: July 11, 2007, 08:07:47 pm
Actually, The Wii has games from the Sega Genesis, Turbografx 16, Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo, and Nintendo 64. MSX and Neo Geo are currently not available on it.

Sorry, I should've been more clear.  Neo Geo doesn't currently have games on the VC in any market, but Nintendo of Japan's Wii site lists Neo Geo under its list of consoles, with a note saying games will be out for it in 07.   MSX games are on the VC already, but only in Japan at the moment.  Either way, VC supports both for future purposes.

Wait, can't the Virtual Console also play 3do games? Because then we could have SC2, too... (but i could be wrong)

No, it can't.  VC currently emulates NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, TurboGrafx-16, MSX, and Neo Geo.
4  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: IRC chat with Toys for Bob on 2007-06-13 on: June 14, 2007, 01:13:50 am
What a day.

I joined the channel about 24 hours ahead of time for express purpose of idling straight through till chat time, only to have to cut my computer off 2 hours prior due to a massive thunderstorm.  By the time the storm had passed, the chat was already 20 minutes in, but I couldn't get in thanks to Freenode trying to shooting errors at me repeatedly as if I was having connection troubles (meanwhile, I'm chatting in three other IRC servers simultaneously without issue).

By the time I finally got back in, the chat was already over.  ;_;

There's XChat for windows, and mIRC, but those are both shareware, so you'd have a limited trial; but you could install it just before the chat starts, so you'd still have a usable IRC client.

I don't know about XChat, but I'd just like to point out that mIRC is shareware, but it's not crippleware.  Pay $20 to register it, but if you don't register it, when the 30 days runs out, it just makes you wait two or three seconds on the splash screen before the program kicks in.

This thread is full of awesomesauce, and deserves a hearty SHOOP DA WHOOP.

Man, I loved all of the Pern books, especially the Ninth Pass ones after Aivas appeared.  It was a total riot reading about the lot of them using what essentially amounted to DOS daily to finally save the world.

Glad you updated, but that didn't help me at all.  Clearly it's an issue with my own PC then.  I'm stumped.

You need to use that item in the Ilwrath's home system, not at Procyon.

I apologize for bumping this from the dead (with a double-post too, shame on me), but I just wanted to update.  I recently downloaded Opera (Firefox was killing my little 500mhz desktop), and am still having this exact same problem.  I haven't thought to test it on IE7 yet; I'll try that tomorrow morning. (EDIT: Tried it tonight; same deal.  And this was after I cleared the cache from all 3)

The weird part is, another forum I'm a member of that uses SMF 1.1 has no problems.  Although looking at it now, it seems they're using RC3.  Not sure if this was a bug fixed bwteeen revisions or not.

Boxart for the second game, not the first.  From the 3DO version.

I can't answer what those hands actually are; I never could figure that out.  They don't seem to match any creature actually from the game.

But then, the PC boxart has this creature that didn't match anything from the game either.

I would like to point out that there's a difference between MMO and MO.  You can have online multiplayer with a limit to how many people are fighting at any given time.  Timewarp does it quite well.
13  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: computer and 3do differences. on: September 29, 2006, 07:05:57 am
You know, all you have to do is remove the remix packs and the 3DO music pack from UQM (or just never have downloaded them to begin with) for the game to run that PC version music.

You don't even have to do that much; isn't there a command line toggle to use the PC music?

This is obviously some kind of reference that's gone right over me head. Anyone care to fill me in?

Can't help you there, but my guess is the title might be of japanese origin, and probably a console game of some sort.

English ref; handheld game.  Nintendo released "New Super Mario Bros" a few months ago, an SMB game that runs in 2.5D and is like a semi-evolved version of the original sidescrollers.  I was joking about Mega Mushrooms, Mini Mushrooms, and Bowser Jr. basically; the word "New" in the name set me off and I couldn't past it.  Tongue

I've got it. Simple, elegant, perfectly descriptive:

NSC = New Star Control

With a name like that, I'll totally be expecting polygonal graphics in a 2.5D engine, Mega Shiva Furnaces that let you slag planets, Mini Planet Landers that allow you to go through tiny wormholes, and a super annoying Ur-Quan kid who wants to help his father kidnap Talana.
