The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Remix Pack 4
|

You know, despite the fact that they're arranged as so on the Precursors page, it didn't occur to me until very recently to burn those tracks to CD to listen to on the road. I now have packs 1 and 2 on one CD, and 3 on the third (I'll reburn that with 4 when it comes out). Hilarity ensues.
You can't imagine the looks I got a week ago while blasting the Melnorme remix out at a major intersection with the windows down and the subwoofer on.
Actually, the looks I got when I did the same thing with "Happy Adventure, Delightful Adventure" from Super Mario RPG were far worse.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: A roleplaying game for SC

While an SC2 RPG would be a good idea, I think an SC2 MMORPG would be even better. The ability to be any of the races, to interact with other people who are playing as different races in realtime, being able to fly through Hyperspace to different planets and such. And you could even still go hunting for resources to pay for stuff (along with doing jobs I suppose), though if that's the cases, resources on uncolonized planets would need to replenish pretty quickly.
Two problems I can think of off the top of my head with that (not counting where to put it storyline-wise, though I'd suggest immediately after SC2 so exploration would be the big thing):
#1: Unless we have some mods that are permanently on planets, we'd have to have planets able to be colonized or lived on, and you can drop your ship down and walk around and talk to people there. So you don't HAVE to fly around constantly, but you can. Maybe this could be limited by the planets (minus Earth) not being an entire planet, but maybe just one big city with a few outposts or something.
#2: With the possibly many people that would be playing this, the standard "two ships + Hyperspace = dragged down to True Space" scenario would be fatally irritating.

Actually, I recognized everything on the SC2 box pretty quickly. The massive ship looked more like the Precursor tug to me than the Sa-Matra, especially with its side extensions. That front part on top could easily be a crew pod (windows?).
As far as the tiny ships go, I see an Earthling Cruiser, a Yehat Terminator, a Syreen Penetrator, a really weird looking Spathi Eluder (the ball parts aren't balls; they're flattish things that look almost like miniatures cities), and what looks like a Mmrnmhrm X-Form with a missing top-right wing. Or that might be a Vux Intruder. If it is, the wings bend down for some reason though. At any rate, they're all ships in the game, they're just painted gray/black/white, not psychadelic as in game versions tend to come.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Song Names in Star Control II
|

I say we come up with our own names for all these songs, like how RPG series always name their songs. But we should make light of that. Here's some suggestions:
Hyperspace: "Adventure, Ho!" Quasispace: "It's Green, Jim" Battle: "We're All SCREWED" Umgah theme: "Bloated Fish Sacs" Druuge theme: "Where Do You Want To Go Today?" Arilou theme: "Gimme some *NNNGN*, baby!"
Actually, I'd better stop now before this hole I just dug gets any deeper.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Kohr-Ah
|

I have a few questions.. about the Kohr-Ah, they are currently mowing over the whole galaxy killing all my allies (orz, spahti,Thraddash) so their influence rings have disappeared.. what am I supposed to do? You're running out of time. You need to beat the game extremely fast at this point to still have a chance at winning. You can still do it, but the odds are heavily stacked against you. You'll know when you've lost. You've still got a small smidgen of time left. Also, I've got the Shofixti females on board, and I'm meeting the agressive male Katana in Delta Gorno 1, but it's not possible to make him stand down. You're supposed to escape from the battle with him several times. Unfortunately, this ties into your statement below: Also, how do you perform "emergency warp" from a battle in the game? the manual says "numpad + and space" This did not work for me.. I am running PhracturedBlue's unofficial release. Mine has worked fine, so I haven't been paying attention to other's responses and ideas on the matter. Escape doesn't do anything for me at all NEMT, it doesn't even seem to be related. I think it was Escape in the original game, but UQM is definitely + and Space for me. Can anyone else enlighten Shigawire?

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Shofixti Remix

shofixti is jumping the wall, streaking in the middle of moving traffic, and shouting "Go for the eyes, Boo, the eyes!!!" rotflmao doesn't even fit here. My gut came several inches to exploding when I read that. The mental imagery is just FANTASTIC. On another note, since these mixes are totally free with the rest of the game, were you guys intending to do anything with them in regards to Overclocked Remix? I'm not sure if any of you mixers do anything over there (Riku has an MP3.com page making me think he's more professional than that, but then again, there's all kinds of mess at MP3.com), but I figure at least getting DJP to post something about the mixes might get some more fanservice and rotation.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Shofixti Remix

I didn't really think it fit the Shofixti well, but the point has been made several times by some (including Norg) that the remix project isn't designed to make tunes that fit the situations. It's designed for remixing. So in that vein, I've got to say that the track was very enjoyable. The scratches and guitar bursts were awesome, but the incoherent screaming just hooked me.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Some chanages to syreen dialouge?

Most, if not all, the dialogue in the 3DO/UQM version were identical to the original PC version, with a few grammatical and sentence changes. That said, yes, you could go to "home base" with Talana in the original too.
As for the freezing, that happens because it's an alpha. Unfortunately you have few choices right now besides waiting for the next alpha; keep playing the conversation until you can get through it all, or just hit space bar to skip to the next point you can choose an option (and thus miss the entire conversation).

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Syreen "special" encounter?

Yes; Space Bar skips through the current discussion and goes on to your next set of questions/conversation finale. That's been very helpful to me, not only in this section, but in the entire game, cause my computer has the exact amount of RAM needed to run UQM, and thus slowdown and crashes are rampant. So it helps a lot to be able to skip through conversations ultra-quick when I already know what they're gonna say so I can hurry up and get to a point where I can save it.
