1  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Time limit? on: December 10, 2002, 09:05:05 am
Screwy,  I'm already at the beginning of 2159, and no race that I know of (save the Xoq-Fot-Pik) have been eliminated by the Kohr-Ah.  It's possible that they killed perhaps Sylandro or Thraddash (the former doesn't appear on your map, the latter I haven't met).  Also, do the Kohr-Ah actually eliminate their Ur-Quan Kzer-Ah?

EDIT:  Played some more.  The Kohr-Ah headed towards the Druuge on February 6, 2159, or something like that.  They killed them on March 19.

So, they move on 2159.  Gives you exactly four years (like meep-eep said) before they start charging.

Actually, I don't have much of a problem distinguishing them.

Here are the only ones that confuse me sometimes:

Commons appear as a bluish-white (Cyan)
Corrosives appear as dark red to me (Red)
Base Metals appear as grey, darker that Commons (Grey)
Radioactives appear as orange-red to me, and lighter than the corrosives (Orange).

There is no encounter screen with him.  It dumps you straight to the dialog.

Yes, I just found that out today. Smiley

Encounters like that indicate that the person(s) you've bumped into are not initially hostile.

I accepted his quest, by the way, but I have no clue about his cryptic clue to the planet/star I need to go.  Any advice, specifically advice that tells me where to go? Smiley

Funny.

I don't use my ships (all I have is an Eluder and two Furies).  I just go in with the Vindicator and kick butt. Grin

Check the encounter screen.  If there are a lot of ships on the screen (like twenty or more), then it is considered a homeworld and there are an infinite amount of ships there.

When dealing with homeworlds, you cannot win the battles, as there is an infinite amount of ships that replace each one you destroy.

GameFAQs has a few FAQs on Star Control II.

It's not a strategy guide, but there are quick walkthroughs in there.

Oh, and this might help:

8  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Time limit? on: December 06, 2002, 04:06:02 am
The Zoq-Fot-Pik were just eliminated on my game. The date that I heard the Starbase Commander tell me about the Ur-Quan transmission (it was most likely an Ur-Quan transmission, as he describes it as 'exhultant') was February 21, 2157.  I had visited the Starbase a week before that, so they were elminated within that week.

Does making allies with them affect when they die?
9  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Pkunk Fury restoration on: December 04, 2002, 05:41:55 am
Pkunks must be half-Phoenix.

I was thinking that it was a 50/50 chance or so.  Helps greatly, since Furies take hits like a little girl.  What is the most anyone has had a Fury resurrect itself?  I've only got it twice in a row.

They're shrewd businessmen.

Yes, they DO seem elitist, but I don't mind;  They have some nice technology.

Funny that they kill the battle thralls first.

I would expect the ZotFoqPik to be the first race to vanish, only because their entire territory lies within UrQuan and KohrAh airspace.

When I left the ZotFoqPik homeworld (after becoming allies), I encountered Ur Quan and Ur Quan Kohr Ah (They didn't call themselves just 'Kohr Ah'.  I assume they are just the 'Kohr Ah', or am I wrong?).  After checking the StarMap, I realized why.  EEppp.... I ran out of there pretty quickly.  Eight of them were on my tail. Smiley

After killing everyone in 2160, do they immediately head for the Earth Starbase?
13  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: The 12,000 credit question... on: December 03, 2002, 10:27:44 am
Even though the text says 12,000 credits, I'm pretty sure I heard the Melnorme say twleve million instead.
14  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / TIME LIMIT -- MIGHT BE SPOILERS on: December 03, 2002, 06:06:20 am
Actually, I read about several things in the 3DO version in a Tips & Tricks magazine many, many years ago.

THE FOLLOWING MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILERS.

First, I thought the last year you have before the Ur-Quan starts to destroy everybody was 2163.  They supposedly go after every race and destroy them.  After they do that, they go after the Earth Starbase, which means "Game Over".  In effect, doesn't that give you eight years?  Or is it that you have four years before the Ur-Quan start doing stuff, but it doesn't end until several years afterwards?

Second, I read that you could delay the Ur-Quan's rampage through space until 2164 (an extra year) if you find and repair some ancient weapon for some race.  Is this true?
15  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / All crew of Lander dead and still alive? on: December 03, 2002, 05:54:58 am
Hopefully, I didn't overlook a topic already on this.

First, I had saved my game while at the planet/scan menu (I do not know which planet or moon I was on).  I loaded it the next day and tried to get minerals while avoiding various hazards.  I managed to get the minerals, but was hit heavily by the hazards.  The moment I pressed Escape, I noticed I had THIRTEEN empty crew slot circles for the Lander at the time (as opposed to twelve like it should have) - an extra empty circle appeared to the left of the bottom row of crew circles.  My Lander was not destroyed, and the minerals I had gathered were still intact and added to my cargo total.  Moreover, the crew of the Vindicator was refilled to my maximum of 50 -- I had 40 when I saved and loaded at the beginning of this point.

This might not need to be of high priority, since this is the most serious bug I have encountered (I've played several times for a total of about three or four hours), and it is not ruining the game.  I AM saving frequently and using two slots (I might use a third).

I just thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring it up.
