1  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Slylandro in-system?!! on: April 05, 2006, 03:12:17 am
So, hypothetically, the game doesn't limit how may races can co-habitate a system, eh? That's interesting.

So once they get this thing mod-able we could have a war councel in some system will every in-game race swimming around some system.

Not that I can think of what use this would be, but it'd be cool, I guess.

What use?  You could join forces with your allies in battling the Kohr-Ah!   Cool

Hey! I just figured out how to make a frungy game.

So, you start a franchise. You hire players for various positions with bizarre names, keep track of their statistics which you can't quite figure out what they mean, and so forth. Each time you start a franchise, the relevance of the various statistics -- and even what the statistics ARE changes, so you have to figure out afresh what a winning team looks like.

What do you think?

For example:

PotKop (Pik)
Loop average: 3.9
Time to Defractate: 3.2 sec
Total passing (from/around): 16/312
Lesser Wiffles: 1
Greater Wiffles (abridged): 0 (1)
Augments (reversed): 30 (2)
Intractations: 3
~~~
Fielded as: center mid-flogsetter
That, sir, is awesome!  It would give you the feling that you are playing some wacky alien game.  I'd imagine it would involve one of each species on a team in play.
3  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Remix Pack 4 - The New Alliance of Free Stars on: January 16, 2006, 10:23:02 pm
Well, I hope everyone here has also installed the ZFP remix, which is very close to the original, with more polish.  I can't recall the guest remixer who did that one, but kudos to him.
The Utwig pre-Ultron theme fits them quite well.  The original was quite bland, although fitting.  This new one is low-key, but posseses plenty of character  It's  like walking through a haunted monastery.  The post-Ultron fits them nicely - they are now  fighting a hopeless war, but they have the Ultron, so there is still hope.
The Chmmr.  We all know and love them - they are unions of crystal and machine.  How fitting that their theme has both a harsh mechanical melody, and airy crystalline elements.
The Shofixti have a lot of Japanese elements in them, probably picked from how humans reacted to them.  However, the most important thing I see in the Shofixti is their sheer energy.  They grow up extremely rapidly, usually die quickly in combat, and likely only live a short time compared with humans - a bit like Earth's shrews.  The remix seems to dull the energy they have, and the scratching goes off the deep end in the latter half of the remix.  The vocals also completely seem wrong.  The Shofixti are a bunch of large shrews/rodents, and we know their voices are high-pitched (Kaieee!) - so where is this black guy coming from?  Please don't take this as ingratitude - I know composing is a lot of work, and you are volunteers, but it is not up to the standards of your previous music.
4  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: I just had one of those... you know... brain t on: July 08, 2005, 04:54:46 pm
If you need any additional voiceovers, I wouldn't mind helping out.
Kohr-Ah - Cold emotionless voice with bass boost
Probe - Robot Filter
Druuge - Slimy salesman
Orz should sound WEIRD more than creepy.
"I've always thought of Orz as a baby demigod, who's babysitter/parent left unattended for a while."
Yea, and they play the harpsicord and serve you tastless grapes.
Spoiler: To defeat an orz, break the mirror on his ship. Behind it is a machine that is the source of his power.
Orz is not Trelane, *Silly Cow*
An original Star Trek fan, eh. Smiley
I like the baby demi-god idea. That's cute.
Seriously though, maybe the Orz are the demons to the
Arlio angels? The ying to their yang. To a neutral person
(such as the humans) they might both seem good (or
bad....). But I see them as opposing fleets/forces and
that's my personal explenation of why we're warned about
the Orz.
The Orz are very childish in their dealings with other races - quick to make friends, but just as quick to lose their tempers.  For all we know, they could have killed the Androsynth by accident or not sufficiently protected them from THEM.
There is most definately a bad history between the Arilou and the Orz.  I wouldn't be to trusting about what they say about each other. (Like Melnorme and Druuge)
