I think everyone wants to believe in the Black Spathi because the real Spathi suck. They're fun to talk to, but that's about it. If you try to use their ships for combat you can win! It'll just take 15-20 minutes per battle.

Black Spathi with better, beefier ships would be pretty sweet. Especially since the Spathi abandon you not long after they join you.

Hey, those are pretty neat. There are still some blurry edges on your ships though. You should try one of three things:

1. make larger pixel art versions so you still have those crisp edges
2. make them with a vector program so everything is smooth and neat and they can be scaled to any size
3. make them in 3d and do prerendered ships (like SC3). Though something is obviously lost in this approach

A couple years back I made some large pixel art versions of the ships. Check them out:

Also, for the record, if you're planning on starting some kind of actual mod or serious hobby project, PLEASE post your e-mail address or some other contact information. Forums aren't a good way to get in touch with anybody.

But seriously, I am intersted. I've always wondered what 3D Star Control combat might look like.

Hey this sounds interesting. I'd be willing to do some 3d modeling/texturing for either of these projects. I'm pretty skilled in Max 7. In fact, I've been working on a game-friendly version of the vindicator. Here's what I have so far:

That model has about 3200 triangles. Anybody interested?

Also, I'd like to state to Rougethebat. Your e-mail is unlisted so people are gonna have a hard time contacting you about helping out.

I'm an artist who's willing, given that you'd actually be dedicated to making it happen. Sounds like a rather fun endeavor. So contact me. I can do any kind of pixel art, interface design, and/or 3d art you may need. But again, I probably need more information first.

6  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Star Control 3 Patch? on: August 29, 2005, 10:15:17 am
This is a little out of place since it doesn't directly relate to UQM. But how many other star control forums are there, eh? Wink

Just curious if there is any kind of Star Control 3 patch. It used to run great back on my Windows 98SE machine. But I've upgraded hardware several times since then. Now I have a pretty new system with WinXP. It runs...but the sound usually gets screwy and the starmap rotates extraordinarily fast.

I know SC3 isn't all that great. But after beating UQM I sorta got the urge to pop it in again.

So does anyone know of a good way to get around these technical issues? Or maybe even a patch (which I doubt exists)?

How "high resolution" are you wanting to go? Are you wanting to make the ships vector art in-game? So that they are resolution independent? Or are you simply using those to generate raster versions of the ships? Also what aspects of the game are you actually upgrading? Only the ships and combat?

Just curious...because it sounds interesting.
