I can definitely see the Umgah doing this if you asked them to make you "hotter". Direct matter to energy conversion might be more efficient for something like that, though I'm pretty sure SC2 races can't actually do that (if they could, destroying Sa-Matra would be pretty trivial)

Why does this remind me of 2009. Star Trek movie? :S

Do you ever pick the conversation option when encountering new aliens? That sounds like the problem to me O_o

But does combat really need to be balanced in single-player? Of course, in multiplayer you would either have to disable them permanently or make some kind of a point-build system... hard to balance, sure, but not impossible.

More planets, colonies, something. It's hard to understand why, exactly, of all the sentient races roaming the galaxy the only ones with a colony of any sorts are humans.

Arilou vs Chmmr. A stalemate until either the Arilou teleport into something or the Chmmr make a mistake and collide with the planet.

I'm no expert in this game, I'm sure other people will have better device, but some things that I did when I first started:
Don't use the main ship at the beginning, it isn't very good IMO and if you sell the guns you can get more thrusters to get everywhere faster -> meaning less probe encounters.
On Pluto there is something that can make your fleet a bit more competitive very early in the game.
For other thigns, use the wiki for advice and practice in Super Melee. I don't have any good advice about maneuvering because it basically boils down to - you go where the enemy is, you go where the enemy isn't, you avoid the planet, you go towards the planet to execute a gravity whip for speed.

I like it! Except for the Earthling cruiser... I dunno why, I guess there are too many lights and nacelles are too forward for how I imagine it? But what do I know, awesome work either way.

And I'll probably arrive in the afternoon, I got some things that came up suddenly, so sorry about that.

I *might* be there. Oh, and I'm probably the worst player, so if anyone wishes to challenge me for that title, be my guest  Cool

Yeah, that's true, but beside the point. The point is the physics of this game aren't very hard or realistic and they shouldn't be.

Hint:
You have to say that guys name 3 times quickly, if my memory is correct.

We understand very. VERY little of the laws of physics. We dont even know if most of them only apply locally.

We know what laws of physics apply here and we have no reason whatsoever to think those things are different on a very large distance from here, while measurments of those distant things are consistent with what we know about here and now. Occam's razor therefor apllies here.

Not to mention SC2 includes Earth and Solar system in the same physics system it has for rest of the universe so your point is moot.

But anyway, there is very little sci-fi without FTL drive and that alone puts most popular sci-fis a far cry from realistic. This isn't a game I expect to teach me about physics, but to entertain me and have a good plot.

Not to mention, how are you going to make something realistic if it's 2D?!

EDIT: Sorry about my English, I'm not used to writing in non-conversational English, even though I mostly understand it.
15  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: New Star Control game... on: January 21, 2010, 08:32:55 pm
Yes, but there are some laws of physics that we know are just plain wrong. No, you won't collide with your missile if you move faster then it's top speed, the same goes for plasmoids, etc...
So basically, it should be fun above all. Of course, to be fun, it musn't be too complex which is why we can't really have too much realism.
